I'm trying to install a 3.1 into a firebird that had a 2.8,it's a 86 model,the guy I traded with was suposed to have had everything including the computer,well he said they couldn't find the computer and it was a 4 hr. drive so I took what he had.the motor is compleat with wire harness and water hoses,I have no idea what the service number or the VIN where,how hard is it going to be to get a match?where is the motor SN on a 3.1 block?i CAN'T FIND IT

There is no serial number on the block.

You can use your original electronics to run the 3.1 if you want.

Otherwise, you;ll be swapping to a 1227730 ECM, I'm not sure of the MEMCAL code though. You can use a MEMCAL from a FWD car, but you would need to re-program the EPROM, or use an adapter to use an aftermarket EPROM, that has the correct spark settings for your engine. The FWD 3.1 engine has different settings for the spark, due to the DIS system used on them.
