Ignition box/coil

Well, I decided to keep the good ol' 6 in my car for good When I added up how much $$ it was gonna cost me just for parts to swap a 350 in, the way I would want to do it, the $$ is better spent on an IROC 350 project car, and then keeping the RS as a driver.

So once again, I wanna find some more ways to squeeze some power outta the RS without tearing into the motor. My next mods (after an Accel 8.8 wire/cap/rotor/AC rapid fire tuneup) are going to be an ignition box and coil.

Has anyone here used Accel 300+ products before? I like these more than MSD because the box is 1/2 the size, and is supposedly just as good or better than an MSD 6AL. The question I have is, how well do these work? I've heard of some people having quality control problems with Accel products. Is this true? Anything bad about this setup?

When you consider my current mods (K&N's, chip, new Accel tune-up), plus the future ones (ram-air using stock airboxes, Dynomax cat back), is this a good way to top it all off??

Thanks to anyone who can help!!

To add some low end grunt, go with power pulleys and a shift kit. All together, under $100 and about one solid day's work on your ride.

The 300+ does give it a little at the bottom end and helps it rev faster, which with the power pulleys is a good combo. If you've got the 8.8 wires, you should be set to handle it. Mine is great, but it ate right through the 8 mm wires and started arching off the frame. All in all a good investment. My favorite feature is the rev limiter, so I can't accidentally blow my engine with the crappy tranny I'm limping along with now.

The harnesses that come with it are very generous in length, so it's easy to mount, too. Good Luck.

Reno,

You got mail!! Also, I was told the 300+ setup would eat through the 8.8s. Should I swap to 300+ wires later on?

I will definitely do a shift kit this winter, but I won't do pulleys. I have had WAY too many alternator/battery issues with my car the last 2.5 yrs to mess with pulleys, even if they do give 5 free HP or so. Plus, I just added my Eclipse amp which can draw up to 50 amps off the car, and I like it loud

But thanks for the info. Anyone else have some input?

Why would it eat thru the wires?

Supposedly, the wires "can't handle" the heavy voltage going through them. I think a lot of this is BS though. I'm planning now on keeping my new 8.8s and seeing how they do.

Any other ideas?
