mufflers

Does anyone know how to get rid of the ugly "pinging" "echoey" noise out of the V6 exhaust?

I have a quality muffler (not an expesive racing one but it does the trick).

It seems to that all V6 seem to make the same sound. Exept for those who spend $500+ on the exhaust.

my stock pipes, with mufflers made a deep v8 sound until about 4 thousand rpms. made a lot of people think it was a 305, and several thought it was a 350. hehe. then you pop the hood.

My car is weird....

I have a stock-sized 2 1/4 inch exhaust, yet my car is seriously louder than any other 2.8 Fbody I have ever seen. I've never figured out why!! As with '85 F-bird, most people think I have an 8 as well. Only a trained ear can tell its a 6....

BTW, I saw a decent '91-'92 RS today with hideous chrome tips, but it sounded really deep like an 8 until he hit 3000 or so...wonder what kind or muffler it was.

I think you're alone with the pinging noise...Mine sounds like a V8. But it also has the stock 350 exhaust on it.

Well

I cannot descride the noise well, but i hear it on most 2.8v6 fbodies I have seen. A guy at a muffler shop told ne I should get a resonator for my exhaust to cut the noise. Does anyone else have a resonator or know if they work?

Resonators take aproximatly 5% of the noise away, all it is is basically 4 inch glasspack. I too have a ticking noise up front, but i think mine is just an exhuast leak.

I'm willing to bet it is something loose in your cat dude mine does the same thing.I looked underneith and it was rattling in the cat,Im going to take the cat off and run a pipe straight through the middle off it then it wont even matter having a cat but when the people inspect it and they look under it the'll be like yup the cats on.LOL so thats what you can do to fix it probley. If thats what is going on with yours.Hope I helped dude.

I know the "pinging" "echoey" noise you are talking about.Kind of what a 2.8 in a cavalier sounds like.I had that until I gutted my cat.I'm not saying that is what caused it.But it help me lose the noise. If it is time for a new muff try a flowmaster or something close to one.Or put a set of exhaust tips on.
I think they are called supertramps or something like that. They have inserts you can remove to customize your exhaust sound.Or add to.
Just a suggestion.
