Post your funny/entertaining/exciting racing stories!
Winter is boring and so is this board lately!!! So put up your stories. I'll start obviously
. As many of you may know this summer I got a little impatient with the stock 2.8 so I put some nitrous through it. If you don't know the story look here. Then more. Then more and before I knew it I was at a 200 shot. And that was good for some giggles for awhile then I decided it needed a turbo. 6psi... then 10psi... then 15psi and I decided to go for broke. I had a new motor ready so after a few -err, umm- illegal runs near my house under full pressure & nitrous I took it to the track for a 10psi run with a 200 shot and melted a piston w/ a nasty backfire that blew the induction apart. Funny thing is I drove it home after getting a new throttle & patching things up before I knew I had a melted piston. I have to say that blowing that 2.8 apart was the most fun I've had racing in awhile. Having a gruntey solid cam 454 is great for grins, but sometimes it's just another motor to maintain. There's something really special about f'ing with a motor you just don't care about until it explodes.

Really? Nothing? Doesn't have to be a track story- street racing, something a friend did, dropping a hammer on your foot getting to a race, whatever you have is fine.

I've got nothing than the fact that my car spins the tires if you push it to 3/4 throttle or more. It'll just sit and spin.

LOL that works. Doesn't matter if it's this year or the other guy broke stuff. And donuts in snowy parking lots are a part of every winter for me! As long as a cop doesn't catch on...

One tire fires are fun, but only looking at that side. Put some bleach on it.

Re: Post your funny/entertaining/exciting racing stories!
Back when I still had my first car (1992 lumina) was before I really knew anything about cars, but I knew I wanted to get something quick(was mainly leaning towards a maro) I was driving home from my mother's one day, there was moderate traffic, not so much you couldn't weave, but not thin enough to really open up the throttle for very long either, a newer model corvette and wrx sti III were traffic weaving and I managed to keep up with them for about 15 minutes, lol. It opened up when I got near my exit, and the corvette had gone flying by the wrx who didn't really try to go after it, then just for kicks I gunned it and passed the wrx shortly before my exit :P
I know either car would have blown the doors off mine in a real race, but hey it was fun, and IMO shows that I'm a skilled driver since I managed to keep up that long, wasn't easy since most of the time those two had an opening it was closed before I could squeeze into it...and well, she was reliable, but a 92 lumina isn't exactly quick or nimble, topped out at a governed 106/107. Haven't actually done any "racing" per-say, still working on the maro to get it running reliably.

I put the smack down on a newer Subaru WRX in my moms supercharged Buick. The guy put his high beams on and tailgated me for 3 miles afterwords.
In my car at school there was lots of ice and when I turned into the lot a spun 360* and crapped my pants. That was scary.

I'm going 25 in a 20 and this guy is tailgating me bad. So about a half mile from the nearest stop on a double yellow road I go ten. I stop and we both signal right onto a two lane highway. Without thinking i change my ipod and miss the chance to turn right on the red. He takes his japwagon revs the throttle, i rev right back. I take the inside lane and he goes for the outside lane. He's giving her all she's got and i'm still kicking. I end up passing him where this bridge narrows and he flashed his lights and flipped me off

Re: Post your funny/entertaining/exciting racing stories!
I think beer has more to do with it.
I love when people cuss and flip you off while driving. Coming home from work one day I had a fun encounter. Going down a 3 lane road, left is fastlane, middle cruising and right is a MUST turn for a parking lot, frontage road and finally a highway onramp. I was going to take the frontage road. Turn on my signal assuming the guy next to me is awake. Turns out he's asleep and keeps on going right through the 1st turn so I speed up a little so he can see my signal but he speeds up. WTF? So I put the pedal down and pull in front of him to give him a wakeup call, I hit the brakes and whip it around the turn to the frontage road. He's obviously awake now because he's cursing and giving me the bird out his passenger window as he plows up the onramp.

i actually went to jail for this but i was riding down the interstate in my 98 dodge ram 1500 that i USED to have lol, i was in the hammer lane (left lane for all who don't know) runnin about 60 when i come up on this little ***** civic runnin 40, i honked at him to move over and all he did was flip me off, i couldn't pass because of the convoy of trucks going by and there was a nice soft grass median on our left, i thought about it for a secong and seing as how my truck has a 360 and a steel brushguard (you know where i'm going with this) i dropped it down to 3rd gear and rammed his passenger side rear sending him into the grass median, didn't take long for the cops to find the only candy apple black dodge ram with 38" tires lol, i doubt he'll ever do that again though, but i've since been put on bipolar meds and finally got my license back

Re: Post your funny/entertaining/exciting racing stories!
It was Friday the 3rd last month December and I had been dealing with Friday and holiday traffic. There was a new looking Ford F150 that was tailgating me or trying to push me off the road while I was making a left hand turn onto a 3 lane road in my town. Considering I was agitated with traffic anyway after I started going down the middle lane he passed me. I decided to show him up so I shifted into 5th gear and let her go. I was enjoying leaving the truck and traffic behing until a little blue Impala started following me. It was matching me lane to lane and I seen the laptop on its dash through my rearview. About 10 min or so later after following me him, a undercover detective with the city cops and 3 other cars decided to compliment me by giving me a ticket for going 60 in a 35 zone. I was steamed about the $130 ticket glad however they did not arrest me for reckless driving like they wanted.

WAYYYY back when I drove my Mercury Tracer (an Escort with better seats and wheels), I had 3 of my friends packed in the thing, pulled up next to some geezers at a stoplight in a Lexus something.. Reved it, they looked but didnt do anything. Then when the light turned green they got shot out a cannon and we were left far behind. Racing old ppl is funny.
I did beat an S10 this last summer downtown. He had passed me driving like an a$$ and weaving through traffic. I finally caught him at a light, looked over to let them know it was on then smoked em. They pulled off on a side street before then next light.

Re: Post your funny/entertaining/exciting racing stories!
I was coming home from work a few months ago, just cruisin along the freeway in the right lane goin the speed limit. This lowered civic hatchback decides to pass me and i thought, whatever its not worth it. Then i noticed the fart cannon and 2 chinese takeout boxes dangling from his bumper (like truck nuts but on a car) and i said screw this guy, downshifted and left him in the dust. I then resumed going the speed limit when i was well down the road. A few minutes later, here he comes again. He pulls up on my left and signals he wants to race. We slow down to forty mph, he honks twice, then i hear a turbo spool up and i thought he might actually have a chance, he honks a third time and we take off. We stayed nose to nose for like 2 seconds then it was over and i left him in the dust once again.
Re: Post your funny/entertaining/exciting racing stories!
Back in 2001 on my first trip around the US in my 1990 Firebird I was cruising with a bunch of other Thirdgenners and a LS1 Firehawk 4th gen for a reason I cannot remember. It was somewhere on the East coast, but I can't even remember if it was North or South. Anyway, we were cruising on the highway and I see this V6 Mustang slowly passing everyone, giving them the eye. Well, I decide what the hell, and I give the guy a nod and we both floor it. Here we go, off like a... well... I dunno, it's a 3.1 Automatic!! Anyway, I am slowly pulling away from the Mustang at each shift and I maybe had a fender on him when I see the Firehawk just BLOW by both of us. He probably had 20-30 mph on us. I let off and so does the Mustang as the Firehawk pulls a little farther away then lets off.
I was later talking to the Firehawk driver from what he saw from his perspective and it was basically "Hey, they are racing.... that looks like fun!" It was a fun memory of that trip to see that Firehawk just fly past us.

Re: Post your funny/entertaining/exciting racing stories!
Lol... Pils, sounds like you should keep your tops locked... I didn't have a problem with mine until I got the tops from a 91 from the junkyard (don't ask how my originals got broken
). Went to the junkyard one day forgetting it was Sunday and they were closed, so I kept going down the road and had to make 2 lefts to get onto the road to get back home. I made the first left, went about a mile and a half, and then the left T came up... I grabbed the handle and yanked it back down before it could come out any more. Pulled over, locked BOTH tops (the pass side latch handle was partly open as well) and haven't had a problem since.
As for the topic, I have 2, well, almost 3...
First 2 were in Wilmington, Ohio (just outside Dayton) when I was going to school. Keep in mind that at this time a. my engine wasn't running right due to many problems (just had the 3.1 dropped in literally a couple months before the first one and hadn't had the time or money to fix it yet), running quite rich, and b. my auto trans was failing:
1. Was coming back from getting food at Wally World (Walmart) one day. Guy in a white Ford Ranger with the 2.8 comes up next to me at a light and revs it. I get the engine speed up to 2K, and we're off when the light turns green. We stayed neck and neck for a bit and then he had to back off (lane narrowed or something). I had to make a left turn, and did so. The guy in the Ranger ends up pulling in behind me after a bit, and flashes his lights. We pull over, and he asks me if I'm selling my car (had an older Air Force window sticker at that time that kind of looked like a small 'For Sale' sign). I say "no". He then says, "Yeah, I didn't know you were going to turn, so I ended up pulling a U-turn in the main drag intersection and catching back up." I'm thinking, "Big deal." He gets out a piece of paper and gives me his number, saying, "If you'd like to trade, give me a call." I say, "Yeah, I'll do that," take his number, and drive off. I tossed his number a couple months later... Almost as if I would trade an F-body for a Ford anything...
2. Short and sweet: Guy in my class had a Toyota Corolla 4-door or something, way older (this was back in 2004). We pulled up to a light on my way back home from class, and we take off. He beat my rear, and I ended up stopping at a light. Of course, he slams on the brakes, locks all 4, and practically skids right through the light.
3. Just a couple towns over from here: I was coming back from a different Wally World (don't remember what I went for now) and pulled up next to a couple girls in a gold 4-door Saturn with the twin cam 4-banger (one of those ones that they all look the same no matter whether they're a 2 or 4 door). The engine was running tons better by this time but the 700R4 was literally toast... It was having its overheating fits again and was shifting like garbage. Anyways, I was going a little too fast and had to stop for the light. I had been in their lane but ended up beside them as opposed to rear-ending them, locking my front tires. My windows were open, and so were their front windows. I was just going to pass them to get back into the other lane because I needed to be in that lane to make the proper turn. The light changed, and the blonde in the passenger's seat says "Go!". So we both punched it. I ended up not manually shifting like I had the previous 2 times due to not knowing we were going to race, but I still took them (I think they may have backed off after the next light) by about half a car length. And then I got in front of them, and turned left. Maybe I should have pulled over and gotten a couple numbers, but...
Actually, now that I think about it, I was going out to get some sort of car parts, probably a trans filter and fluid (changing the fluid actually made things worse so the trans got yanked six months later).

Re: Post your funny/entertaining/exciting racing stories!
I have a pretty interesting one, not really a race story but it was pretty funny in my opinion. Back when I was repainting my car (about a year ago), my friends joked around with a couple cans of primer and put "vtec killer" on the side of my firebird. So we decided to drive down to the local McDonalds in the bird with "vtec killer" written on the side of it in primer. Mind you Im an Asian guy, anyhow we are all at McDonalds. We finished lunched and headed back to my house to finish sanding on the bird and beetle we were working on. On the way out of the shopping center a Delsol with a bodykit on it drove up next to us. It was a total *****, had the stickers, spoiler, mismatched bodykit, the works. So its another Asian guy driving it, and he probably wasnt expecting an Asian guy (me) to be driving a firebird, especially not one with "Vtec Killer" written on the side of it and decides to flick me off. So we are both at a stoplight, he starts revving up his engine and looks over to me. I had 3 of my buddies int he car and didnt really want to launch it, but I played along since I wanted to see if the delsol can even make a wheel squeel. So I revved back. As soon as the light turned green, he floored it and halfway through the intersection I hear a loud grinding sound and his car has smoke coming from it. Im still sitting at the stoplight and all my buddies and I were laughing our asses off. Thats about the only time I even got close to racing it.
