I went out and floored my car, and at 40MPH, it shifted at about 5500RPM, it started shifting like this after I adjusted the TV Cable, is this right??

I used to go out and run all the gears on my firebird every couple weeks or so (this is why the engine blew up) And these were always the speeds i got. aproximate speeds.

1st: 40-42
2nd: 65-71ish
3rd: some place where the needle was burried. i'm thinking around 95ish, then i'd have to let off and through it into 4th (OD.)
so i'd say your o.k.

A cable too far forward out of adjustment would've produced a softer, earlier shift.

Hey Tom,

Mine shifts under WOT at 55-5600 RPMs. Does this mean my TV cable is under normal operating condition, based solely on this?

As for answering the question on shift points, 5500 is indeed where the tranny should be shifting at WOT.

That is where mine shifts out of 1st too. The only problem is, if I keep my foot down it won't shift out of second....
Anyway, I was trying to rev my engine this one day and I accidentally pegged the tach - 7000 rpm. It was loud, but I don't think anything broke. I was talking to my mechanics teacher and he said that the red line for cars is usually 8000-9000 rpm, but companies under rate them so people are a little safer. Heck, there is a guy with a 72 Camaro (out of a mag article) that was a drag car, and he didn't hit his max HP with nitrous until like 10000 rpm. He had a 4.8 L V-6 too! It was awesome becuase (I don't know if I remember right) but I think he ran high 7's or something.

Not necessarily, Jason.. it's a good bet, but every car's different, and the TV should be checked regularly anyway. My car goes past 5500, more like 5800-5900, at WOT anyway.

What about at crusing speeds, it shifted at 20MPH at 2500-3000. It seems like its taking a while to get there, maybe I'm just not used to having the TV Cable adjusted. It never shifted that high, it does shift firmer though.
