I think it has to do with the VATS.I do know it is ignition related.Several months ago I had a problem with the vats on my RS.When I turned the key I could hear the item your talking about click.I jumped a wire from a green wire out of that relay to another and the car started. And has been starting fine since.

If I am understanding the location right. It is probably Relays to power options. I foget if they go to the door locks or the seat.

So that's what that hole covered by tar paper is for! (I don't have power locks or power seats or VATS...)

As to that yellow sensor, that's the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS).

I think I mis-read... what year is your car? On cars with the cable-controlled speedo, the yellow VSS box is mounted on the back of the speedometer. I actually see it when I look below my driver's front speaker- so these probably aren't the same thing. Sorry!

(laughs) Oh that makes sense! I thought you were talking about a yellow sensor inside the dash! (I was wondering how you saw in that deep!)

I have a light over my heater controls; didn't think it was for the ashtray. I did finally score that switch to make my console light functional tho... looked forever for it. Apparently it's a hot item.

lol.. the sockect that holds the bulb twists like a 1/4 turn and pulls out, then the buble has the wedge type base and it just pulls straight out.. what i did on mine, that lens was so crudded up the light was too dim to be of any use, so i took a drill and drilled a little hold in place of that lens.. now it shines right on the ashtray.. start with a small bit and work up till you get the right ammount of light you want.. as far as the loose wire coming off the hatch motor, thres two of em, one is for the remote open switch and the other is a +12vdc lead for the optional light.. as far as other optional lights, if you dig around under your dash youll find the connectors for the optional foot area lights.. just buy the sockets, and they hook right up..
