This is a guess, as I have no late '70s, Camaro 305 road tests. I know 185hp Z28 350s with 4 speeds and 3.73s ran 0-60 in 8.5 seconds.
I would guess your typical 145hp '80 305 Camaro, with an automatic and stock 2.73 or 3.08 gears would be right around our 2.8s...10.5-11 seconds. I know the smaller 115hp 267 Camaros were in the 13 second range.

Not sure about 0-60, but I've seen a couple stock ones run high 16's in the quarter. They're rated at 155HP@3800 and 260ft@2800 (Unless it's a Cali. Z28, then it's 165HP, not sure of Torque). There's a LOT of torque for you to overcome in a street race.
But, the 2.8 like to rev, shouldn't have the same traction problems and you're about 350lbs lighter than him.
It depends a lot on his gears (likely 2.73). In a really short sprint, I'd go with the 2.8. Otherwise, I'd go with the 80. If it is even slightly modified - carb, intake and exhaust - you'll have a real tough time keeping up.
I know what my 80 Z28 is like(modified 355)... But that's a completely different monster

Wait, I thought they didn't use the 305 in the camaro until 1982. I think the 80 camaros should still have had a 350 in them.
