Need to reattach EGR "Pipe" that comes off exhaust headers to top part, how o do it?
Need to reattach EGR "Pipe" that comes off exhaust headers to top part, how o do it?
Alright, my car stopped running the other day. i asked myself why? Turns out, someone pointed out a LARGE Vacuum leak, the PIPE under the EGR valve (passenger side, 1984 2.8L, under the hose that comes off other tubing, from the throttle body "air filter circle" was TAPED ON ye -TAPED ON- barely staying on, and it finally gave out. My efforts to reattach have not worked, and the car is sitting.
Further description: From the exhaust headers up, there are three pipes that go into this main pipe, which attaches at what looks like a coupling to the upper pipe, going into the EGR valve, into a hose, into more hoses, into Throttle Body for EGR valve (wich i cleaned off with a screwdriver, wasnt sure if i should take this opportunity to put SeaFoam down there and let it sit in exhaust pipe hole to headers). And the diameters ARE different sizes.
Exhaust tape? Nope. Held in place slightly, gave out where they meet, i removed the residual "fiberglass tape and glue" did nothing.
Clasp? I CAN GET IT ON THERE but it WONT REALLY STAY - due, primarily, to the two different diameters.
The car is parked, it always ran well enough that i didnt know there was a problem and the car runs well except maybe ill go to a thicker motor oil and just "let it run" since i did a fair amount of revving when the vacuum leak happened so i hope its ok, it should be. Im due an oil change anyway so its 10W-30 or 10W-40 hi miles conventional oil for me.. if not GC (??)
So how do i get this thing reattached?
I will post pics of it when i can and ive elected to not jeopardize the motor (any further, its ok now but wow it sputters like it is out of gas when the pipe moves off to not keep vacuum, want to fix it so it purrs and STAYS that way) Thanks

Need a pic there... Most of us are fuel injected so we don't really have a clue as to what you're saying without a pic and we can't tell you how to fix it.

I will -happily- provide pic when my camera becomes available. i promise!
Thanks for the reply and sorry for the typos.
I presently have it "taped up" and its running very smooth. Hope it holds. Pic coming soon. i will post the pic, in time.
