What can I do?
What can I do?
I dont even know if this is the right board to post this on but here it goes. I have a 92 Camaro with a V6 in it. I was wondering what SIMPLE and cheap mods I could to to maybe give it a little more speed and or accelration. Ive heard power pulleys but I have no clue what they are or anything. ANY help would be nice. Im trying to learn all of this because Im really interested I read the boards about everyday. Thanx

Well, MHugo
anything you can do to a v8, you can probably do to a v6, the only difference is that it'll be a little more difficult to find the material, but it can be done. Let's see, did you buy a drop in K&N filter, or did you do the conical filter, the conical filter setup will create more hp, than the drop in, but either are good first mods. A freebe you could do would be to disconnect your Throttle Body Coolant lines, but i wouldn't do that now, since i see you live in KS, let that wait till spring. designing a ram-air setup can also be achieved, i've had about a million ideas, but have yet to build one, and i'll probably have a million more before i do build one. You can buy an electronic super coil, for somehting around 50-60 bucks, and then buy some 8.8mm wires to connect to the plugs, this should help your acceleration somewhat, after those you can always overgap your sparkplugs. One of the best things to do to feel power though, is just a good tuneup, change your sparkplugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, oil filter, etc. After those things you should feel some better stuff. Of course later you can do the big mods, such as Cat-back exaust, headers, heads, and camshaft. Those things will truely wake that engine up. oh, how many miles are on your block?

the under drive pulleys are a good mod......they ussualy come in a two peice set, an alternator and a crank pulley......basically the crank pulley is smaller than the OEM crank pulley, so it slows down the alt, waterpump, etc, so with everything spinning slower its less of a demand on the crank to spin everything thus giving you back some power lost. The intake is a good mod to like 85 said.
Where are you guys from in St.Louis? Im actually from belleville illinois but I go to school in KS. How hard is an electric supercoil to put on? Also I was going to change the plugs and wires anyways but i was lookin at them and one seemed like it would a real pain to do. Its got 127000 or so on the block. But Ive only put bout 9k of those on. It was some lady in CA's before I bought it she just drove it to work.

I;m from a town called Troy, its about 3 miles NE of Collinsville. The plugs and wires arent that hard to do.......the one that will give you the problems is the passenger front plug. Get some extesions and a swivle and you should be able to get everything ok. Make sure you get the plugs in good and tight, but not to tight,,,,, The haynes book tells how tight to torque them. The wires are a bit trickey but if you ask us we'll tell you what order they go in.

well, i'm from the St. Louis, actually Bridgeton, the little town by the airport. But, as far as wires go, make sure that you do the wires one at a time, or else you'll have the firing order all messed up, and that's not a good thing.

Whenever I do plugs/wires on any car, I make a diagram of the wires going from the distributor cap to the engine. I also make a mark for the #1 cylinder on the distributor cap.
By the way, #1 cylinder on our motors is the frontmost PASSENGER side. Every other motor out there uses the front driver's side as #1. Our engines are layed out as:
firewall
5...6
3...4
1...2
bumper
