3.4 Headers

As my name implies I own a 91 RS 3.1 Camaro. I have been reading a few posts on how "3.1firebird" bent headers for a 3.4 V6 to fit a 3.1 V6. I was wondering if he could give me a description of how that works. My father is a mechanic so I have access to a torch and pipe bender and such. I was wondering if it bolted on right away and you bend to meet the exhaust or did you have to bend just to bolt on to the engine?

ok its a PITA, but it can be done. I ordered the 3.4 Pacesetter headers for the 93-95 camaro and firebirds. All you really have to do is heat them with a torch until they starting getting a dull red, then stick a pipe in the collector and bend them. After they cool take them over to your car, bolt them in with a couple bolts ,and see if they'll go in without hitting the frame. You'll probably have to do this a few times before you get it just right, so be patient. After you get each header to fit you'll have to take it to the muffler shop open headered and have them make a Y-pipe for you. The passenger side header is kinda tricky to make the y-pipe connect to, so take it to a shop you know does good work. I paid about 175 to get the Y-pipe made. The EGR on the headers will work on your car. The O2 sensor can be screwed in on the passenger. The driver side has an O@ sensor also and it needs to be plugged with something, so I used an old O2 sensor to plug it with. The only things that wont work are the smog pump because there isnt a fitting and a power steering bracket)the one behind thepower sterring pump that connects to theexhaust manifold) wont fit back on, but it has plently of support elsewhere, so I didnt worry about it.

Thanks for the info. I have two questions one about the air pump. Is it that the air pump won't attach any longer or that there is no port for the air tubes? I live in an area with high emission standard any by law I need the air pump to work. My final question is did you feel that the horse power gain you recieved was worth the time and effort put into this? Would it be almost as good to just go with a bigger cat-back pipe. I already have a hi-flow muffler.

no air fitting on the headers for the tube. What you could do is weld the olh tubing from your manifolds on the headers and rig it up that way. It probably gave me between 6-10hp knocking off around .2 off the 1/4 mile time. I could feel a difference definitely worth it, plus no body else has headers on these motors, so it was fun doing it for that reason to.

Hear is an idea you might be able to do.. Buy some and sell them done.. Use your car as a test fit.. I am sure people would pay you 60-100 bucks extra if all they had to do was boltthem on and get a y pipe made..

Also did you use a regular torch??
