The injectors are in! Wow!
Saturday was the day I put in those cleaned injectors. I had them flowtested, cleaned & re-tested by Rich Jensen at Cruizin Performance. The website is at http://www.cruizinperformance.com if you want to take a look. I sent off my "spare" 1987 2.8 injectors. Rich told me that the first flowtest showed a 7% variation in flow, after he was done, the variation dropped to 2%!
Yanking the old ones and putting in the cleaned ones was pretty simple. I cut new gaskets for the TB and plenum beforehand (I had some old gaskets kicking around). The fuel rail came off easy enough; and I didn't disconnect the rubber fuel lines. There was enough play in them to let me work on the rail over the radiator.
When I was done, I cleaned up to go for a ride. I got scared at first; the car wouldn't idle, it would run for 2 seconds and stall. Finally, I thought of playing with the gas, and I got it to keep running- after it kept running, I took my foot off, and it stayed running on it's own. The car was hesitant at first on the roads, but eventually got up to speed (I guess air was trapped soemwhere?).
Big difference! The car's more responsive from a stop, and it feels more powerful overall. I'm going to try to get to the racetrack Wednesday or Friday.. not sure which yet.
I'm also thinking of sending Rich my original 207,000 mile injectors to see how badly they were clogged up. Hell, it's cheap enough!

Hey Tom, nice job with the injectors! Yeah, I would guess there was air in there too.
Maybe I should go get an extra set to. But do you think its worth it with 86k miles?

You think so? I wonder how the air got out.. I mean, air rises... could there be some bleeding provision built into the fuel rail? Maybe I'll ask about that on the TPI board.
I dunno, it might help... I'm pretty sure my "spare set" had under 100k thousand miles on them, and they were only 7% off. Rich said something to the effect that they were pretty good before his cleaning, and he's seen much worse. Don't forget too, I'm running out of mods..!
I'm pretty much grabbing at straws here for my 17 sec time, and wondering why I can't re-do that 16.87. (sigh)
I ordered that PAW catalog, the website says it'll take 4-6 weeks to arrive. Damn. Oh well, I gotta figure out a way to convince my dad to let me rebuild a motor- he's of the opinion "if it runs fine, dont' mess with it." Plus I've already littered the basement with car parts, he doesn't want any more.

LOL...my basement is full of extra 3rd gen parts too. I got IROC steering wheels, my original center console (took out when I put the PW in), my 4 Monte SS rims with studded snows (going on soon...no winter car this year
), my original tailights, a 700R4 from an '88 Suburban (someday, a 350 in the beast
), new brake rotors, (got 'em free), power hatch motor, window regulators...the list goes on and on!!
As for the air, IMO anytime you mess around with the fuel system, there is that chance air can get in. And by the way the car was running, to me that is a totally logical explanation. I could be wrong, but it makes sense to me!

Hey I have a set of 2.8 injectors from my old engine if anyone is interested, I think it had around 100,000 or so, they all flow as far as I can tell(I ran with them for a bit till I got my 19lbs).

P.S. I hear you on the parts... I'm working on getting rid of a few myself. I think I'm finally gonna rid myself of my old tan interior, just need to make some packages to ship it...

How did the 19lbs treat you? Stock is 16, right?

The 19's definately made an improvement considering I was running the 16's(I think that is what they are) in the 3.4L. The 16's worked fine until I was pulling high rpms then they didn't have the flow... the 19's definately helped things out. Top speed 80-90 before(way low...) with the new injectors I hit the rev limiter. Not a bad improvement.

Hey Tomp and Pods8 I also have the 3.4 upgrade. I am running the 2.8 injectors.
Should I have the 3.4's cleaned and swapped over? I know it should be more powerful but what will be the change in MPG?

The 3.4L injectors shouldn't change the MPG, the main difference was at higher RPM's where the 2.8L injectors couldn't flow enough. YOu can get them cleaned or I picked up a set of ford 19Lb mustang injectors that had been flowed from http://www.musclemotors.com/index.htm for $60, the nice thing about for injectors is they can handle higher fuel pressures so if nitrous is ever on your mind...
