Best way to get crud out of the engine?

I swapped on my Fiero valve covers over the weekend. There was quite a bit of thick, oily goo on the heads. Obviously the previous owner had not done a good job with the oil changes.

I have had the car for 6 years and have done regular changes with Mobil 1 and do not plan to swap out the engine just yet. What can I run through the oiling system to flush out some of that muck? It is not all through the top end, just mostly around the front of the head on the driver's side. Will Seafoam in the oil do the trick?

the gooey is from bad oil that has parrafin in it i dont use anything but valvoline in the vehicles i care about sea foam or a quart of diesel will do the trick but with the diesel only a quart and run it for 2 or so minutes and then shut off and let sit for 10 and change oil !! dont ever run it too long with any kind of cleaner it thins the oil and you WILL spin a bearing i would suggest a quart of Rislone additive with the next oil change il will free up the rings if theres build up in them too

Thanks! I think I will go with the Seafoam. What Rislone product do you recommend?

Be careful cleaning out all the sludge then running Mobil 1 afterwards. If there are any leaks that the sludge is sealing up? They can actually start to leak as the Mobile 1 (synthetics in general) gets through them.
