ANY V-6 GUYS WITH A SCAN TOOL?
I have an 85' Camaro with the MPFI V-6. I tried to hook up my scan tool to it and it says no data at ALDL. Now, I plug in the cheap code decoder that you buy at any auto parts store, and that works just fine. Go figure! I know the scan tool works because I use it on my 88' TA and it works great, so if anyone can give any insight, it would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

There was an ECM change between those years. The later model cars (88-up) used ECM's with a baud rate of 8192. The earlier ECM's had a baud rate of 160. The pinouts for the data line also changed: The 160-baud ECM's used pin "E" for the data, 8192-baud units used pin "M".
The cheap scan tool works because the function of pins "A" and "B" (ground & diagnostic) never changed between ECM types.
I'd imagine you just need a different cable, or to configure your tool appropriately? Check out these two pages for info on baud & pinouts:
