Spring Break Plans (all Firebird)

OK, check this, and let me know if it's possible:

Friday:
Get home early morning.

Install dashpad, map pocket, cupholders, overhead console, seats.

Receive truck freight (hood, spoiler, wheels)

Saturday:
Change oil, flush and fill radiator, change ignition wires, plugs

get tires for wheels (Firehawks)

install hood

install taillight center

install wheels

install front bumper cover

Sunday:
finish front bumper cover

install spoiler

run custom lighting wiring

Monday:
finish spoiler

drop at paint shop

Tuesday-Friday:
PAINT

Weekend to play in fully redone Firebird

Any suggestions, conflicts, arguments on timing, etc?

Just remember, EVERY project runs into problems. If they're mine, normally they are of the critical nature and involve the spilling of automotive liquids, swearing, screaming emanating from the garage, bleeding, the throwing of Craftsman items and other objects, neighbors asking me if I'm OK, small children hiding under shrubbery, etc....

Yeah, I'm a shi*ty mechanic. Do I care? Naw, every project adds character (and stock value to Band Aid Co.) Can it be done? Sure...but plan extra time...you're wise to budget so much time for the paint...just in case the other stuff takes an extra day.

Actually, painting could take til Sunday for all I care. I'm also throwing in LOTS of time for that spoiler, I'm expecting a nightmare there, too.

Friday: Getting home early seems like the hard part here! Dashpad & map pocket will be easy, the seats will be easy but I bet you'll vacuum under there so that would take extra time. As to the cupholders & overhead console, I don't know what's involved, but I think you could finish up Friday.

-----------------------------------------

Saturday: Oil/plugs/wires, no problem. flush/fill radiator, I guess an hour or two. It's been a lonnng time since I've done that (I should do it soon eh?), but the most I remember was that it was a messy, pain in the butt job that I hated doing. Tail-light center & wheels, no problem.

Install hood & front bumper cover? That means you're going to have to align everything up.

Bumper cover: Align to fenders and headlights.

Hood: Align to fenders. Align to bumper cover. Align to headlights. You don't want the headlights to interfere at all with the hood cut-outs. In fact, disconnect the headlight actuators (motors), and work the headlights up & down with the **** to make sure. A common interference spot is the inside corners of the headlights on the hood.

Are you getting a stock replacement hood? It might be easiest to unbolt the original hood from the hinges, instead of unbolting the hood+hinges from the fender. Every bolt you see holding the hinges-to-fender and hood-to-hinges has adjustments possible.

-----------------------------------------

Sunday: The spoiler will be cake if it's designed right, and doesn't need custom working-- and it's not an aero-package spoiler. Under the underside of the hatch window there's a fill panel around the latch. When you remove that fill panel, you should see a ton of black circles. Those hide bolt holes for the spoiler.

-----------------------------------------

Monday-Friday sound great... I think you've set aside enough time for them. Where are you getting the paint shot?

-----------------------------------------

But yeah it definately sounds possible, the hood & bumper cover will be the longest if they need a lot of aligning. It took me a day to align all my body panels, but then again, I was aligning the whole stinking car! Glad to see you worked out a plan.. that helps you not to forget anything.

Hood is an ASCD ram Air, and spoiler is a 91 GTA. Thanks for the pointers on the lights.
