To Ram Air or Not to Ram Air.....

To Ram Air or Not to Ram Air.....
Not to sound like a HS English teacher reading old sh*t, but that is the question
Here's the debate. Should I take the time to make pipe to run down and face my grille (after sawing the bottoms out of the airbox), or should I just saw out the bottoms and be done with it.
One of the stupid people at Auto Zone (I like the guys, but this one is dumb) said that by sawing off the bottoms, I will already have a ram air effect. He says the air coming through the grille will come off the air dam and be "rammed" up to the filters. He says I don't need to route piping down.
Now, by just sawing off the bottoms, I will have more area of the filters accessible to air. If I connect pipes to whats left of the airbox, then it cant pick up air that could be around the sides of the filters. Is this making sense?
So what do you guys think? I'm still thinking I should run the pipe...but is it worth it versus just cutting the bottoms? Will the filters get wet if I just cut the bottoms and leave it?

Uh, he's half right.
The Camaro dual-snorkel intake is superior to that of the Firebird, not only because of the straight-on tubing, or the dual filters, but because the filters are located in a high-pressure area.
The high-pressure area is formed by what the Autozone kid was talking about.
The ram-air idea, with forward-facing tubes, will be much better.

I had a feeling that was the case. I'm not doing it until spring anyways...I was just real curious as to whether he was right or not...I didn't think he was.
BTW, how close should the tubes get to the grille? I mean, my grille slats don't face out, they face down at about a 45 degree angle. Any idea how close I should make the intakes to the grille for maximun effect?
