Electrical Duct Tape?
Electrical Duct Tape?
Can i put "Electrical Duct Tape"
on the "Air Check valve," since my "3M Duct Tape" has melted ? And i can also choose from "Gorilla Glue" Tape.
For now, my car runs "Good" (except for the MADDENING smoke at start up, which went away for 6 hours, yay, ill spend BIGGG $$ to make it stop when i get BIIGGG $ until then im going to think something is wrong with my car, it didnt do that until i started driving it ... damn) ... and it is the DUCT TAPE on the AIR CHECK valve "Thing" i thought was an EGR that makes it run ok, otherwise it acts like it is ou of gas and makes me drive my car as if it is going to run out of gas in traffic, sputtering like a car running out of gas almost to a "T." and it will do this even if the gas tank is full, because thats "Vacuum" of some kind. Im smart, see
So, as to this tape, since i dont have any $$ but i know how to buy and use tape.... Electrical DUCT tape ?
Or can i "Get to cappin'" ? Meaning, i thought i needed "EGR block-off plates" but thats not an EGR... so at least ONE mechanic (if i can locate his # again, he was willing to check it out, i didnt return his call due to no $ this month, but he seems to know about "Capping off emissions stuff" particularly on 80s cars, when they meant diddly) i could "CAP OFF" the ends of that three-prong "Air plumbing" as i call it (air pipe, goes into "Check valve" i thought was EGR) and create VACUUM that way ? with.. clamps, and an CAP on the PIPE, and a CAP on the HOSE? Yes? No? .. No? Yes? ? ?
? ? ?
And what is the HIGHEST ! temperature TAPE ! ! ! i can USE ! ! ! ? ? ?
You see i have TAPE!!! on it!
But i need NEW TAPE!!!!
Or.. need to change pipe...
Help? TY!

Re: Electrical Duct Tape?
The only way to delete the AIR stuff coming out of the manifold is to put a bolt in there... If you can, take the tube out and measure the thread size on the fitting. I've forgotten now what it is. You CANNOT use ANY tape on the exhaust. I've been there and tried that with both regular duct tape and the high temperature aluminum backed duct tape (for dryer ducts). I've even tried the exhaust system repair tape with no avail on my leaking pre-catalytic converter connection to the engine exhaust pipe. Trust me on this, there is NO tape available that you can purchase without going to NASA or somewhere that will hold up to the temps.
You can remove the AIR pump and then cap off the exhaust with a bolt and plug the pipe at the catalytic converter with either a bolt in the connecting hose or a plug of copper RTV silicone (yes, my RTV plug is still in my converter after several years! Too bad I couldn't get that RTV to seal that good anywhere else in the exhaust
). Just don't try and "glue" the broken AIR system part together with the RTV... It's not designed for that use and won't hold.
