Changing fuelpump on my 1989 camaro rs 2.8l mpfi

So just this past week I decided to pull out my dads ex camaro cause now its mine, any way the car had been parked in the Texas brush for six years left for dead after my dad states that he was driving it one day and it just shutoff anyways I pulled it out and check for compression good, fire which I found out the hard way got shocked, then fuel at the shrader valve and nothing. So I had my dad turn the key while I was under with the car with fuel filter disconnected and nothing no gas came out so I'm thinking it is the fuelpump. I then bought starter fluid from autozone and the car runs magnificently. So I ordered a fuelpump and wanted to know if anyone has any tips or suggestions on install. I hope this works I will have scored me a free car. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I haven't had the fun of replacing a pump in mine yet, but before you do that you may want to check the fuel pump relay. I had one go out a few years back, and it can easily make you think bad fuel pump. If I remember right the relay is on the drivers side firewall. Check it first.

If I'm wrong about location feel free to correct me, was a long time ago I did that.

You have two choices when doing a fuel pump:

Cut off the exhaust, drop the rear, then drop the tank

OR do what I did and cut an access hole in the floor then cut the fuel lines to get pull the pump out. You have to used handtools on this one, nothing power to cause sparks and blow you and the car up.

One takes longer than the other but is a cleaner job. I did mine cine I needed mine done in a weekend and didn't have the time to drop everything in the rear of the car.
