Does anybody know what the head bolts on a 2.8l are torqued at? I'd appreciate any help.

According to the Chilton Manual for a '86 it says to torgue the bolts to 77ft lbs for a 2.8 and 68ft lbs for the V8s.
Just don't forget that there is a certain tightening sequence you need to do. If you don't know it e-mail me and I will send you a copy from the manual.

I'm using the haynes manual, and it says that the v8 uses 65ft/lbs. while the 2.8L uses 68ft./lbs. also the almighty 4 banger is supposed to be at 85ft/lbs. how about your manual? I also checked for revisions from versions 85-87, when fuel injection was introduced, and it doesn't give any new T.Q. specs.

That's strange the different torque specs. The only thing I can figure is that my Chilton is for the Camaro and I am guessing by your name that your Haynes is for the Firebird, but it is crazy that the 2.8 torque specs would be different between Pontiac and Chevrolet. Just another one of those mystery of life I guess.

My Haynes book says to torque the head bolts to 45lbs then an additional 45 degrees.I don't know what that would be after the 45 degree turn...but I thought that was some what strange.Just my .02 cents.
