Question for tomp or others!

when i bought the flywheel it was off of an 89 camaro..yesterday i began trying (trying) to bolt up the clutch and pressure plate and bellhousing. I found out the 87 clutch and pressure plate didnt bolt due to different flywheel inner bolt designs and the old pressure plate was way bigger. no biggie went and bought a new clutch and pressure plate. when i got home i couldnt figure out how the new one bolted either?! tomorrow im going to take off the flywheel again and see if i can figure it out with the flywheel off. Any info on this? obviously they should work... oh not only that...does the bellhousing from 87 and 89 work? i looked at it yesterday and it seems it doesnt there is quite a bit of hang over. Did the bellhousings also change from 87-89 as the flywheel did in 88? Thanks

I don't know anything about manual trannies; but here's my guess at everything-

What about the different flywheel keeps it from fitting the motor? There are a few holes in the crankshaft; one is not a screw hole, it's a locating hole... does that help? As far as I knew, the bolt pattern on the end of the crank didn't change between 82-whenever!

Also, I know if you have the correct flywheel on wrong, the teeth will hit the engine.. if the flywheel is flipped so the other side faces away, the teeth won't hit.

I just checked the Centerforce Clutch website at http://www.centerforce.com - seems that they say the same stuff was used from 85-89. The disc size is 9 1/8", input is 1-14 (whatever that means), and the disc & clutch & throwout bearings have the same part #'s.

Hey thanks for the info on that '88 Flywheel... sorry I couldn't be of more help. Did they say what was changed? I think the crankshaft went from externally balanced in 1986 to internally balanced in 1987- so in 1987 (from my info) the balance weights were removed from the flywheel. But '88... ?
