What to do about insurance?

I'll probably be going under my dad's policy. Reason being is that I dont wanna have to fork over a huge insurance downpayment.

What can I do? Anyone familiar with this? I am 17...Insurance companies just love people my age.

I am thinking about how much coverage I will need. ugh. I like having a camraro...insurance sucks.

Basic is what I am thinking. Very basic.

What do you guys think I could get away with?

Any chance in HELL of me getting away with an insurance payment of less than $100 a month?

What do you guys do? How do YOU handle this? Pointers? Tips?

Thanks!

well, i'm on my fathers policy, (i'm also 17) but the big thing is, he's owned the car, and had the policy with the same agent for 17 years, and besides his one 102mph speeding ticket, the insurance is still doing good. I'm getting away with 60 bucks a month, my dad pays the other 60 which is his part for his insurance, in all adding me doubled his rate, from 60 to 120 bucks a month, But i also have full coverage. When i had liability and Comprehensive, i was paying only 50 a month. and 600 a year.

My dad owns my car and it is insured in his name. I only pay a little over $200 a year for liability. I know I am screwed if I wreck my car because I only get what it lists at, which is way under what I think it should be.
