turn the key to the accessory and back off a few times. itll build up enough pressure to get the fuel back into the injectors. At least thats what I've done. otherwise, Im not sure

Time for a new filter!

Trash in tank, tank run dry, trash sucked into filter, clogged filter.

Make sure you use two wrnches to take filter out so you don't break a fuel line, and spray the connections with PB Blaster first to help loosen.

But how did the trash get past the fuel filter sock???

Thats what baffles me, not saying your wrong, but the fuel sock is ubar tiny holes in it. Yet filters still clogg.

pump probably burned up, still hums but the plastic parts inside don't pull gas now like before.

member its the gas that cools the pump and keeps it from dying, run low on gas allot, the FP will suffer.

Re: grrr ran out of gas, now no start

well yea, ill check the fuel filter and lines, see whats going on in there, then from there if nothing is clogged in there, ill check the pump. guess its all trial and error with these cars, but thats the fun part

Most likely the fuel pump died, just because you can hear it kick on doesn't mean its still working right, been there done that.

How much gas did you put in? Time to put a fuel pressure tester on the fuel rail before replacing anything.

Yes its true we have reports of some cars not starting until they get half a tank of geas in them while others will fire as soon as whatever miniscule amount you put in goes to engine.

When I replaced my fuel pump, my 'sock' had a bunch of holes torn in it - and it literally fell apart in my hands - they deteriorate over time. If the fuel pump is over 2-3 years old, it's easily possible that the sock has rips/tears in it (if it's even still there at all ).

Plus, the sock is to keep contaminates large enough to hurt the pump impeller out of the pump, has nothing to do with keeping contaminates out of the engine - where the filter filters out on a micron level. That's why the filters always clog.

Nothing to 'check' with a fuel filter - just replace it - like $10. Easiest cheapest thing to try first.

auto zone sells, FI rated rubber hose [goodyear brand]

I don't like to use allot, have used it to patch, might want to get a flaring tool or compression fittings and cut in a section of new line.

but if its leaking, rest might too, when I went to do my SFC soon as I touched mine they all started to leak.

Re: grrr ran out of gas, now no start

its leaking only where the kink is on the line, how much do u think it will cost to just fix the one spot, its near where the line turns to go towards the engine from fuel filter

Dorman makes repair kits, you can get 'em at most parts stores. If you have to bend it use a tubing bender.

I am in this boat, too.

What is the "Correct" Fuel Pump replacement procedure? Fuel Pump for this car costs $25 brand new lol

.. how to do it WITHOUT hacking exhaust nor fully removing gas tank ? (And how to save alll my gas!)

Do you need to take the carb off to get to the fuel filter on a carburated car ?

84 2.8l have a block mounted pump.
Sounds SUPER easy to get to! Also would explain a once dripping fuel onto ground...

Does shop charge rip-off process for this repair if it is easily accessible? or is it "get it there STAT" and stop starving engine for fuel ?

Re: grrr ran out of gas, now no start

use a shot of starting fluid, if it still won't even pop then the spark is bad.

If it will try to fire off it, bad fuel or timing.

Time to test the coolant temp sensor for proper resistance, Google 'GM coolant temp. sensor resistance' for the values.

Had a Jaguar did the exact same thing. Ran off starting fluid, wouldnt stay running.

It is the fuel pump, sir.Thats why it wont STAY running.

10-4 good buddy! In a 1985 Jaguar XJ6 4.2 you can change the fuel pump in under a half hour with a screwdriver and thats it, having disconnected hte battery terminals. i enjoyed that and miss that car a lot.

On the Camaro, the symptom is the same. Starting fluid, runs? That means its not getting fuel. Therefore, return Fuel Pump for another.

And yes, ive had fuel pumps be loud, as they come in different sizes.. ? But for the Camaro, thats likely whats going on, FP is defective, symptom is the same!

THEN prime it with the key. You only really need to do that once.
