Car broke down today, what could be wrong???

Well my damn accelerator got stuck to the floor & wouldn't let go so I had to turn the car off while it was rolling & then eventually able to stop it, but what could of caused this & how do I fix this. It is an '86 Firebird w/ the MPFI 2.8L. Thanx

Mine did the same thing, only I think the floor mats I put in got caught behind the accelerator. Check the spring on the throttle body. Look for things it may get stuck on or if it's broken. If nothing seems out of place, WD-40 the spring and the hinge points behind the accelerator. I hope this helps.

make sure you didn't just hit the cruise control button by accident, i know i've done that a couple times, and it's scared the crap out of me. Go ahead, and start the car, if the RPM's shoot way up, then turn it back off, and check the Throttle Position. With the hood open, check the Throttle response from in the car, see if the pedal will release from inside the car, if the pedel is up, but the throttle is open, there's probably a problem with the (lines that connect the throttle to the cable) but don't know what they're called. Also, you might want to spray some WD40 on your throttle, the little thingie that turns when you hit the loud pedal, see if that'll loosen things up.

look at the throttel blade on the trottle body before you start the car and make sure its not stuck wide open. Just look and see whats causing the blade to stay open. COuld be the balde getting stuck open because of gunk, or one of the cables are being pulled by the accelerator, or something else. Good luck.

Thanx guys; it's all fixed now. It was explained a little bit on how I fixed it on the other thread about my compression testing results. Too lazy to retype it again.
