Engine Problem with 2.8

I have, to my dismay, a horrible problem with my engine. The symptoms are almost immediate stalling, incredibly rough idle (the car shakes uncontrollably), and the RPMs are extremely low. It is nearly impossible to give it any throttle at all, because it dies immediately. I looked this up, and I found that the carb was the problem, but I'm not so sure. The engine and transmission is going to undergo a full rebuild soon, but I want to see what the malfunction is before me and pops take it apart.

Remove the spark plugs and examine the color, and then do a compression test...
