well, i went to kragen's and it was only $34 plus tax. i hope this stops my voltage gauge from bouncing around. has anyone else had this problem??? sometimes the gauge is fine and sometimes it bounces in tune with the engine......coincedentally, sometimes my tensioner stays still and sometimes it wobbles back and forth.

There are two arrows on a tensioner. These designate the "range" that tensioner can act in. One arrow shows the "max travel position", when there's no belt on the tensioner. This is where the tensioner has sprung out as far as it can go.

The other arrow shows the "tightest position", meaning that the tensioner is pressing tight against the belt. This is where the tensioner is being compressed as far as it can go.

If the tensioner is at the "max travel extreme", chances are that the belt has stretched too much and the tensioner is not doing anything! Your belt is flopping around- and yes, that means you should buy a new belt.

Tensioner check? With your old belt off, try to move your tensioner from it's "max travel" to it's "fully compressed" arrow. Very hard to do? Your tensioner's fine. Very easy, as if there's no spring? Replace it. Also, spin the tensioner by hand. If it makes really bad noises, the bearings are shot, and replace it.

FYI the arrow on the center tensioner "circle" should always be between the two arrows on the tensioner body.
