.. MAYBE.. do this myself? (I would take a photo, however i lost my camera. yes, lost it.) I will stick with this thread, too. I almost didnt post about it, but it IS a massive gas leak, and i elected to ask for advice, and weigh if i can do this myself. First time if so..

Car runs very well, even with the drip. Problem is, its WHOLLY unsafe right now (inside of car smells like gas, i have a puddle of 89-octane gasoline under the car) .. and im evaluating if i can do this myself, as i have virtually NO money, and a whole lot of time..

Basically, i confirmed it is dripping from where the line meets the filter. A nice, little upside-down "U" the line seems to take. I wish i could snap a photo. But, this explains the 1) wavy gas gauge readings, at least. Someone mentioned it could be the mechanical pump itself. I hope it is just the line. At least a pump costs $25, not like on fuel injected cars!

So, as tempted as i was to "just call someone" and have a money issue (i wont return the shop's call, they were booked up today and tomorrow they do good business thats good,) im debating as to how best to 1) change the fuel filter, and 2) get that line to stop leaking. if my gas gauge levels out after this, im sure im be better off. If not then iu have another issue. (Tank is almost on "E" now, de to leak. From full tank to that in two days, with "two trips" before i decided i shouldnt run the risk of blowing this beautiful car up.)

Ok, i got quoted $140 for 1.5 hrs labor and the part. Good or no?

Not too bad, but high for what it is. A filter and line replacement should be like 5 minutes for a pro.
Do you have the jack stands and basic tools needed? If so, I'd give it a go. I'm a moron and I figured out how to change the fuel filter.

Also, money for parts: when I was a broke-@$$ college student, I'd donate plasma. $40 for an hour of sitting on your butt watching movies.

Fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel injection hose, and a couple hose clamps will fix that thing up nice.

Replacing the fuel pump is literally 2 bolts and a gasket (which you can make out of the leftover RTV I know you have) plus removing and reconnecting the fuel hoses/lines, and the fuel filter should be one fitting and a hose, or 2 fittings. Then you take some sort of a saw on the damaged line and cut out the bad portion to replace it with a piece of fuel injection hose and 2 clamps.
