help with code 23
I'm getting a code 23 off my firebird now. I replaced the TPS and the wiring is fine. It also says low pressure at manifold? What the hell does that mean? Ideas? When the SES light comes on like this it makes my car run like total **** and has no power til 3500rpm+

Code 23 on a 89 V-6 is for the Manifold Air Temperature sensor (MAT).. the sensor located in the air filter housing. Just replace that (I remember around $20) and you should be good to go. Same thing happened to me last year.

Code 23 is low temperature for the MAT.
This represents an open/broken circuit or an inoperative MAT. Double check the connections (possible reversal also).
I would think twice about using a 4.7 K resistor (55*F) as permanent solution. It will prove whether the circuit is ok though.
As a quick fix to use the car for a short period, its ok. The ecm does need to get the correct air temperature to adjust the injectors to the proper pulse width. If it didn't, GM would never have used the MAT in the first place.
I could go into a long explanation, but I have written this stuff too many times. Read some of the older posts regarding relocated MAT and pulse widths (one on this board, another on the TPI board and a couple discussions on the PROM board). You'll learn more about the MAT that you probably care to know about.
