Any 82-92 axle will interchange with any 82-92 car. The axle spline count refers to the axle shafts inside the axle; as in, what your wheels bolt to. The axle connects to the driveshaft thru the u-joint, which has nothing to do with splines. Hope this helps.

TomP is correct if you are replacing the entire axle assembly (other than disks to drums, which require modifications to accomodate the disk brakes).
It is only of you are changing the internals of the axle that the specific parts matter.
But if you have a choice, always go for the 7 5/8" 28 spline rear over the 7 1/2" 26 spline rear; its a little stronger...but still weak overall IMO.
