Rough Idle

My car seems to be idling rough and surging a little bit after it idles down. Any ideas?

Sounds like it is running a bit rich or the VE tables are off. Is there a point where the idle ever smoothens out?

Not really, when I'm driving it kinda tugs, then lets off a little bit, then tugs fine again. Just started about a week after I put my chip in. I didn't disconnect the negative battery terminal, I undid the ECM fuse instead....should I go ahead and do the battery terminal?

Mine has had this problem since the real cold weather has hit us, not sure what is going on but its enough to shake the hood while sitting at a light. Seems to go away when the car warms up or the temp gets above 40. Do what i posted in another section... it might help, might not, won't hurt tho

How you liking the chip? worth it?

---------------------------------------------

After you do any mods you are "supposed" to disconnect the power (which BTW you are supposed to do when ya work on yer engine <----- read the chiltons). Leave it disconnected for 10 to 15 minutes. This resets the computer and erases the memories. When you go to restart your car it will most likely come to life and promptly die. Restart again and it should idle fine and might surge. Go for a drive on the highway for about 15 miles, the car WILL surge for about 25 to 50 miles. Mine hasn't died but it will surge from 400rpm to 1100 and stabilize at 600. Anyways the whole point is so the computer learns the new mod and adjusts for it. I have done it quite afew times with no problems with the exception of whats above.

No, I think it's just a placebo. Ya know, make you THINK you're goin faster. I wish I knew someone who'd burn me a custom one cheap.

Theres a place in southern oklahoma that will do custom chips, they take yer car and put it on a dyno and play with it till they get it right. Its about 315.00 to do. Friendly people and good at what they do. I will dig around my contacts and get ya the #. I found out about them about 6 months ago when i started my 3.1L engine build. I will be taking my car up there after i get the engine together and in. From what i have put together they say their chip will make my engine see the 235HP its designed to put out before the NOS.

Overclk... why don't you look into burning your own chip? Hell, you'll get people asking you all the time to burn them one, that you could end up with an interesting little business on the side.

My living in Canada, makes it prohibitive to do custom chips because of the cost of the shipping, paying GST and PST when it enters the country. It would be cheaper for me to buy a stock memcal from GM for C$100 (US$65.00) and start from that, than to ship an eprom to be reburned.

And for me to send the 27C256 eprom costs an arm and a leg to get them here, and then you have to convert the memcal to have a ZIF socket so you can plunk the eprom in. The eprom on the GM memcal is soldered in.

But if I was in the US.....
