Pondering some changes...

Well.. I don't know how much longer I'll be in the 2.8l world.. probably only a few more months.. anyway, I'm worried after 154k miles my valve guide seals are more than a little worn.. intermittent oil problems in cyls. Anyway, would the performance gains be worth the effort to yank the heads, replace the seals, replace the rocker arms with 1.6:1's, replace the valve springs, possibly shave the heads a 1/1000" or 2, and (if I'm feeling gutsy) port 'em?

EDIT: Forgot to mention I'm still willing to put money into it since I'm selling the engine to a friend when I get my 8.. and I'm sure that friend wouldn't mind paying a little more for a higher performance 2.8

Go for it, i have been playing with a 3.1L on an engine stand now for 5 to 6 months. I have had the block bored and fully preped, the heads have been preped and shaved. Forge pistons, yadda yadda. Anyways go for it. I spent about 2 months going back and forth about modding a 3.1L or spending LESS money to make MORE power in a 350 car. 3/4's of the fun is the search for parts and putting it together. I have full plans to sell my car with the modded engine in 6 months to get a V8, but the lessons learned and the final product makes it all worth it.
