rear end delay

I hope this isnt too big of a problem with my camaro. This only happenes when Im taking a corner.. half way around it I floor the gas its like its in neutral, then once im around the corner it starts to go. Is there a problem with the rear end? Actually the first few times I really hammered on it around a corner, I heard a clunk in the back and the same thing happened.. no power then it goes. Now theres no clunk and does the same thing. Hehe, Im not that rough on the car, was just booting around a bit.

I am sure you have done this, but have you checked your tranny fluid level? from there the only other thing that can "disengauge" would be something in the rear end itself, and i have never heard of that happening to a rearend in corners only.

Are you sure it's acting like it's in neutral and not like the engine simply isn't getting fuel? Our fuel tanks are kinda flaky when aggressivly cornering with a low fuel level.. try with at least a half-full tank and it shouldn't do this anymore.

A clunk? Mine kinda did the same thing when the transmission mount was broke. They're only $5 and easy to replace, so might as well check it.

I floored my car pulling out of a parking space at school one time and I had that clunking noise. It didn't seem to come out of gear like you said, just the noise. And yeah our tanks are funny when low on fuel. I took a corner hard one time w/ only a gallon or so in the tank and the engine died while I was in the corner, but picked up again as soon as the car was straight. Scared the crap out of me though.

My clunking sound turned out to be a combo of tranny mount and broken intermediate pipe hangar. About these gas tanks, I had to hit the brakes hard to stop once, all the fuel came forward, and my car died. I think I know how you felt Jason!

Guys, be careful with running too low, and I'm not going to talk about dirt in the tank, either. When a fuel pump runs dry (engine cuts out), the pump gets damaged. It might not damage itself much, but do it often enough, and it'll wear down.

Also, the pumps heat up, which can kill them. When the tank's got enough gas in it to cover the fuel pump, the fuel cools the pump. Ever since I replaced my pump, I try to never get under 1/4 tank. I used to drive around with the motor cutting out all the time...
