Flowmaster vs. Dynomax

I know that this should of been posted on the exhaust board, but I wanted to post it here. Almost all of my posts have been on the v6 board, and you all have been a huge help with my car. (Plus, you'll get the v8 @$$holes that will laugh at a v6. Not that I care, but I won't get any help from them.

Now to the question: I'm looking to get a catback exhaust system. I don't want the headers and all that, but I like the deeper tone and looks of dual exhaust. I know that dynomax sells this for 149.99 from summit racing, and I don't actually know how much it is from flowmaster, although I know it is more $$$. I have seen many different stats, some saying dynomax is more free-flowing, some saying the opposite, and so on. What do you all think is the better system?

P.S. I wanna send my congrats to Monkie, who has an awesome car, and has made me laugh with the fights between him and Kiel F.

I'd go with the Dynomax. Most people say they like them better than the Flow.

I like my Dynomax. I noticed a HUGE difference, and I've seen the airflow stats for the Dynomax vs. Flowmaster. Here ya go
Flow #'s at 28 in. of h2o
Dynomax Race Magnum - 528 cfm
Thrush Magnum Glasspack - 507 cfm
Summit Fully Welded - 343 cfm
Flowtech Afterburner - 342 cfm
Dynomax Super Turbo - 333 cfm
Hooker Competition - 232 cfm
Summit Turbo - 309 cfm
Thrush Boss Turbo - 297 cfm

Peak #'s on a 350

Dynomax Race Magnum - 409 hp 394tq
Thrush Magnum Glasspack - 409 389
Summit Fully Welded - 415 390
Flowtech Afterburner - 409 391
Dynomax Super Turbo - 412 387
Hooker Competition - 397 381
Summit Turbo - 405 383
Thrush Boss Turbo - 407 384

Avg #'s on a 350 from 2,500 to 6,000 rpm

Dynomax Race Magnum - 298 hp 366tq
Thrush Magnum Glasspack - 297 365
Summit Fully Welded - 295 362
Flowtech Afterburner - 294 361
Dynomax Super Turbo - 292 358
Hooker Competition - 286 351
Summit Turbo - 291 357
Thrush Boss Turbo - 292 357

Hope that helps you a little bit. THere's not really too much difference. Basically it's just how much you wanna pay and what you wanna hear. I heard the flows are a lil bit louder, but I like the smooth tone of mine. So oh well, good luck and let us know which you choose.

PS. Just relooked at them, and realized that was FlowTECH, not FLowmaster, sorry. That's what I get for speedreading.

I like the sound of my flowmaster and am satisfied with it and it is loud like i like it=). While you are doin the catback look into a high flow cat i got mine from PAW for 80 bucks and im sure your old cat is plugged. when they pulled mine off i looked inside and could barely see through it even tho it was still good and the new one i could see through it clear as day.

my personal opinion, ive dealt with both, and im definataly a dynomax fan.. performancewise their both about the same, but flowmasters just sound obnoxious.. dynomax's produce the same power with a more mellow note...

Well Im really satisfied with my flowmaster american thunder exhaust on my 85 SE, in low rpm´s it sounds almost like a v8. My Formula 305 had the same one in it, man it sounded cool.... memories..... anyways the only thing is that it is like $150 more than the Dynomax.

I would say go for the Dynomax and find out what these guys love about it and let me know, cause when my 3.4 comes in I want a new exhaust.

I love my Flowmaster. TO me I have not found an exhaust that sounds better. THough I wouldn't want to drive my car everyday with as loud as it is either

Kyle Im not starting anything so dont jump up my *** (eww, I know you would like to). But you have a T/A right? It has either a 5.0 or 5.7L right? Then why are you posting here? He is asking which one sounds better on a V6 (notice the V6 board title). Exhaust tones sound alot different on V8 and on V6s. So he might get a Flowmaster or whatever you have thinking it is gonna be all that and some more. Then he gets it and it doesnt sound like you told him it would. Why? Because you have a V8 and he has a V6. I just pointed this out because you are giving him false information. But I repeat do not start with me.

Monkies correct I have a 355. Sorry I like the way it sounds on a V8, but I also think they sound real nice on the V6's also. Just not at real High RPMs, sounds kinda Rice at 4500RPMs

I like my Flowmaster 80 series, i dont really know how the Dynomax ones sound but my 80 series has a pretty low tone even at high RPM's.

to say it short... in july I got a new catback w/ a dynomax muffler on it. It wasn't any louder than stock, and really didn't sound that great. I chopped it off, because it sucked, and went back to the exhaust shop and they put on my 80 series flowmaster. the dynomax isn't any better sounding than stock, and now that I have the flowmaster, it's staying on. dynomax's only sound decent w/out a cat, even then it's less of a hassle to get a flowmaster, keep the cat, and waste less time and money.

I have a flowmaster 80 series and i love it. When i got it I was expecting it to be really really loud, but it wasnt really that loud. I dont think that it is obnoxious at all. I love the sound and i would definately recommend it. I had a significant gain in hp at high rpms. But of course that is just my opinion.

I disagree.. The TRUE Dynomax cat back with all the nice bends with a catco high flow converter sounds more like a V8 if that is what you want than any flowmaster I have heard... I think the whole value should be the issue on this.. For 139.99 from JC Whitney you can get a 2 1/2 inch cat back and it happens to be Dynomax. It has smooth bends and no kinks. That alone helps the flow...

Yup, I'm with Brian on this one. (Besides, the Dynomax muffler is only $30.) The pipes are what makes everything perfect.

My Dynomax muffler was as loud (when I first installed it) as my original muffler that had a hole in it! When I first started the car up, I thought I forgot to connect a pipe!

Welp, take it from a V8 *******. If i had to put a new exhaust on my car again. I would have to say that dynomax would be the way to go. My cousin has a 3.1L V6 and he said he felt a gain in low end horsepower, but it was a small one. I myself lost a butt load of power. (both cars have flow's) Hopefully thats enough to convince you to spend some $ on the dynomax muffler.

-MSD 8.5 mm plug wires
-Problems every other day with the car (probably not a mod, but to me it sure makes a difference)

Yeah man get a new catback, I dunno about Dynomax but flowmasters are pretty good. Mine is a couple of years old and it looks and sounds cherry.

well it seems that I'm one of the few that has done both, and my vote is for the flowmaster.
