HyperTech Chip & Thermostat

Well, Just got my 89 Bird out of the shop after having the engine rebuilt....

I have purchased a Thermomaster chip & a 160 thermostat with the understanding that this should give me some more power :-)...

My question is, if anyone happens to know???...If I also install a SLP cold air induction kit, will the car run " TOO COLD "???..

Would it be better to run a regular power chip / reg thermostat if I want to have cold air induction at some point.

Or would the colder thermostat / chip be ok with the induction kit??

Thanks Much for any info, Have been watching the board for about a month for tips & such..just REALLY GLAD to have my " FireTurtle " as my friends call it back in my driveway :-)

Welcome to the board!

The cold-air kit won't make your engine run cooler. It's only giving your engine cooler intake air- you get the same explosion inside the cylinders. Actually, more air=more power, so you might be getting a bigger explosion. Hm. I wonder how the theory is on that one. The temp of the engine won't go down because of a cold air intake, but maybe it goes up a degree or two!

But yeah you can run all three. In Arizona, it's probably not possible to overcool the engine, eh?

The temperature of intake air doesn't really affect the engine running temp.. the principal here is that colder air is denser, thus you can burn more gas per stroke with cold air while still maintaining the optimal 14.7:1 air/fuel ratio, thus increasing power. You also have to remember that "cold air" in PHX area terms is gonna be the "in the shade" air temperature... on a decent summer day 115+ without batting an eyelash.

Damn, Tom, you posted while I was writing that =P
