FWD 60 degree question....

Where the hell can I get hop up parts for my new car? Other than a K&N drop in, and Accel coil packs (not 100% sure on those), what else can I do?? Anyone make a cold air?? Exhaust? Help!!

Put a 3.4 long block under your hood.
No replacement for displacement.
I can't wait to create a CAI package, now.

Any of the V-8 cat-backs will fit on your 2.8 (same exhaust). I have the Dynamax cat-back on my 2.8 and love it, sounds great. You can make your own cold air induction (just follow the same directions posted in the tech section. Just about anything you can do to a V-8 you can do to the V-6.

Yup, the front wheel drive 2.8, not the f-body one.

That's got the DIS distributorless ignition, right? Visit http://www.bmracing.com and look for their "NuVolt"- it might be under import racers, or new products. It acts like an MSD-5 or Accel 200 box- it boosts the spark output. It's only $120, compared to the MSD DIS-4 which costs $400 or so.

You know about the Accel coil packs...

I hear there's no such thing as a bolt-on cat-back exhaust. I searched a while ago for my friend's old 1987 Pontiac Bonneville- and could not find a system! Either you need one custom-made, or replace just the muffler, or I'm a moron and missed something. That's possible, I didn't search too hard. I'm sure you could give it a universal high-flow catalytic convertor, too.

The heads are the Gen II, aluminum w/splayed valve arrangement- you're ahead of the f-body's 2.8 game already. You might want to give the Crane Magnum 1.52 or 1.60 rockers a shot; but I'm not sure if any machining's required for the aluminum head.

My friend, when he had the Bonneville, was able to get a (I think the name was) "Ractive" intake for the car. It wasn't a cold air; it was a K&N on a stick, but it could probably be "made" into a cold air. Or you can make your own. The Ractive intake gave his car a kick in the butt- altho it did add a bit of that "drone" sound that the ricers have to their cars. (I always thought that noise was 100% exhaust!)

There's also Mantapart at http://www.mantapart.com - they were mainly a "FWD" and "quad 4" site, and not too much of their 2.8/3.1 stuff interchanged with the f-body 2.8/3.1. You might get lucky with them for the Grand Am, tho.

You might also want to check out Clifford, at http://www.cliffordperformance.com/home.htm - last I checked, they were also a FWD 2.8/3.1 business... not too much for the F-body, but they might have something you can use. Summit pointed me to them in '94 when I was looking for 2.8 headers.

I'm sure spoilers and body kits and wheels & lowering stuff is out there, too.

Be wary of a performance timing chain; the 2.8/3.1 timing chains for front-wheel-drive cars are supposed to be 0.1" thinner to fit underneath the narrow timing chain cover.

Hehe...yeah, I was talking about the Grand Am

Thanks for all the links Tom...I knew I could count on you to come up with something!! I didn't know about the NuVolt box...I was looking at the MSD DIS box, and had already deemed it WAY too pricey...too much for a driver!! The only reason I got this car was because it was real clean, it was a V6 coupe, and I got it from work for wholesale price. It drives like new though, so I do wanna do some stuff to it.

Its too bad, because it seems like the FWD market begins and ends with W bodies (Grand Prixs, Intrigues, etc). It seems GM compacts get left out of it...time to go digging!

still same things.. even the DIS packs are available from jegs.. i believe they are around 65 bux per two coil pack.. anything else you can do on a v8 ya can still do.. im guessing you have the second gen motor in it? whats the intake plenum look like? GMPP has several different heads and throttle bodies for newer 60degree motors.. simple thing as even taking the heads to the shop for a valve job.. did that on my 4 banger grandam.. nice little extra climbing hills...
