Head Gasket

I was thinking of porting and polishing the heads on my 92 RS with a 3.1 in it, and I was wondering if any performance magizines had a head gasket that would up my compression ratio from 8.8:1 to 9.0 or 10.0 somthing?

If you want real power, slip under the hood a 3.4 long block.
I did.
It pulls like a freight train, now.
Pistons would really make you compression goal, tho. But, at a price.

Most performance mags don't show items for v6's,but thats not to say they don't have it.Just give em a call.
I think it is safe to say....you will probably have to buy them from NAPA or some other auto parts store. If I'm thinking straight they come in different thickness.

You could probably have a machine shop shave the heads a hundredth or so, too. If you shave too much off, I hear you need to also shave the intake manifold to match- but the machine shop probably knows how far they can go.

But Kevin's right on the money- no catalog bothers to list 2.8/3.1 f-body parts, since there's not a huge market for 'em. But they do exist, just call! You might also want to hunt down PAW in a car magazine like Hot Rod, and give them a call.

All I can suggest is call Norhtern Auto Parts
800-831-0884
I checked my SpeedPro book and my Fel Pro book.
I could not find a great chart like they use for the small block Chevy & head gasket thickness.

You're on your own.

Try www.fel-pro.com
or 847-933-9353 (tech line)

The only way your going to get the compression up from 8.8 to 9.0 is to mill the heads. If your running the stock gasket then changing will actually lower your comp. The factory uses a steel shim gasket. That type is about .020 thick and aftermarket gaskets run .035 to .040 thick. Your going to have to find a different route, I'd be thinking a 3.4 like KED85 had suggested.

Thanks for the info I'll check into some of it. But I think I might just drop in a 3.4 it dosent sound like a bad idea. If I drop a 3.4 in, is every thing gona line up correctly such as motor mounts and such?

Yes.
It's a very detailed but very easy swap.
What you always haveto keep in mind is that what you start with is exactly the same way it must end up looking.
I have made mine look exactly like a 1985 2.8.
It'll pass smog so easy.
Everyone I show it too is so blown away. They cannot tell the difference.
Everything fits, perfectly.
Hardest parts are all the plastic tubes breaking and adjusting the valves. 3.4 valve are very sensitive to overadjusting.

Oh, this thing pulls like a freight train! And I get great gas milage, too.
