I got 26+ highway before I put an O2 sensor on. It fell off a year or two ago and I didn't replace it until this November. Haven't driven it since then.
BTW, Does anyone know if the O2 sensor will improve the mileage any?

In my 86 Camaro SC w/ 136,215 miles I get about 22-23 mpg. I've gotten as much as 26 before on one trip. Most of my driving is interstate at around 70-75 mph. I do a little city driving too. I've went about 310 miles on a tank of gas and 13.5 gallons filled it up so I figure I can get about 340-350 out of a tank of gas but I never go that far b4 fill up. 22 x 15.5 is 341 so that would be about right for me.

Highway 25 mpg (+375 miles per tank) and not using "Highway Mode". I am hoping to get 28-30 mph with "Highway Mode" invoked. Car has 167,000 miles on original L98; heads and waterpump never been removed.
AAAAhh....17mpg, think my 02 sensor's bad?

In short. Too few
Converting numbers isn't very good at 1:45 in the morning, but I get 350-400kms on a tank and get 20 or so MPG (that I am fairly sure of), and that's in nice weather (spring)It seems like so low for my car though. Most of my driving comes from a 10 minute trip to school and back on about 50 MPH roads. Me thinks though that it is too low, or were the carbed 2.8's that bad?
EDIT: BTW I have nearly 96000 miles on the engine and my 350 kms = about 240 miles or so

Overclk350, what mods do you have on your engine? Send me an e-mail and I can tell you which ones may be "hooping" you.
Some of these "time honored" mods don't work as well as people think they do and often they tend to cause the engine to run far too rich; burning gas needlessly and making your car actually run slower.

I get 22-23 MPG in combined city/highway driving with 89k on an '89 2.8 with 93 octane Mobil.
And yet, the '95 Grand Am, which will eat the RS, gets over 26 MPG on regular with the 3100 SFI V6, and I drive it harder too!

I just got back from a trip to indiana and I got 400 miles on 14 gallons. I have a borla exhaust and a tornado air. I think it is the tornado air because I did the same trip three months ago and averaged 365-370 a tank.
W/ my V6 I get 26 mpg at the best on the highway but an average of about 23mpg & 15-16mpg in town. & the engine has 131k miles on it.

My 87 camaro has approx 165,750mi (265,200km) on it & gets about 250mi in the city (almost400km) and 310mi on the hwy (500km). The car is basically stock except some rapidfire plugs & a modded airbox. Oh yeah it has a diffrent rear-end too but I'm not sure of the ratio

Well, I just did my first test of "Highway Mode" on the eprom and I got 27.3 US mpg (11.55 km/litre). This wasn't even getting "aggressive" with the Air Flow ratio.
I plan on doing another test and I should easily get over 28 US mpg. This is with an L98, 4L60 and 3.23s.

You guys'll all hate me for this, but somehow my birdy gets me 33 miles per gallon on highways. I can't explain it, as it's always been like that since I bought it. What could the past owner have done to get this kind of mileage?

87Firebird, is that 33 US mpg or 33 Imp(Canadian) mpg? There is a BIG difference between the two. At 10 kms/litre, there is 23.52 US mpgs and 28.2 Canadian mpgs.
Also, Manitoba is pretty flat. Try doing it in a mountainous area like BC. I have never tried my car on flat land. May be I will during the summer.
I am not refuting or discounting your claims, it's just that I know that many Canadians think in Imperial and not US. I get this too when I tell people my mileage and they say "that's nothing, I use to get that in my old .... " and then I say, yes, but I am quoting US mpg not Imperial mpg.

I dunno, Glen91, you tell me. I first figure out KM per liter, then Miles per liter, and then multiply miles by 4.5 to get miles per gallon. Which system has 4.5 liters in a gallon? I thought I used the imp system, but now, who knows?

87, 4.54 litres/gallon is Imperial. 3.785 litres/gallon is US. 33 x 3.785 / 4.5 (to convert your factor) = 27.75 US mpg. About 1/2 mpg better than my L98 (in mountainous terrain).
As I said, this is with my eprom optimized for "highway mode" (the hidden feature from GM). The gas savings alone pays for all the eprom burning equipment. I bet with Highway Mode invoked that you WOULD get over 33 US mpg or 40 Imp mpg. That's better than a Jap 4 banger and with more power (and style too)!
The beauty is that you will save this money FOREVER! (plus have the equipment to make more HP too).
The late model V6 MPFI guys are lucky that you use the same ecm and eprom (except the ESC circuitry) that us SD L98 guys have. Whatever us TPI guys can do to our eproms, you can too!
Earlier V6 MPFI cars with the MAF must use the MAF eprom. Not as well "hacked" but we are getting there. I expect to figure out where the "highway mode" parameters are on the MAF cars in a week or two. I have a friend with a MAF ZZ3 and we are getting into hacking that now.
