i wouldnt expect anymore than $200, just depends on who you find and how dumb they are.

Out in LA, 700r4's go for some change. If it's combined with an engine, that's about how much it would go for.
To get a rebuilt 700R4 in LA it goes for about $1200 - $1500.
That's why I grabbed this 85 Firebird I got now. It has a rebuilt tranny in it & I paid $300 for the whole running (LOL) banged up car.

Yep... not worth too much for someone that knows f-bodies; worth more to an 82-83 f-body V6 owner with a busted 200C.

Those had 200C's?
I heard those only came on Monte Carlo V-8 type cars.
I'm still learning these cars.
Damn, so many small changes over the years.
In the first S-10 Blazers, magazines said they all had "weak" 700R4s, so I assumed they were all 700R4s with these 2.8's.
Use it for barter or put it up on ebay.

Monte Carlo's got the 200-4R. The 200-4R is a close version of the 700r4. The 200C was a 3-speed automatic that was economy-minded, and not built to handle much of anything. There's one bonus with it- it's supposedly the same length as a TH-350. That means a car with a TH-200C can switch to a TH-350 without changing the driveshaft.
What's funny is, everyone calls the 700r4 and 200-4R "weak" and "crap"- but nobody remembers how badly the TH-350 and TH-400 were when they were first introduced. People were yanking out their TH-350's for Powerglides, calling the TH-350's weak and pathetic. Now look at racing... TH-350's are pretty damn popular. Right now the 700r4 and 200-4R (does GM make the 200-4R anymore) are close to bulletproof with all the design changes thru the years. Hm, why did I bring this up again? Heheh.. time for more coffee I guess.

Tom, TH400 are INDESTRUCTIBLE!
I've tried to destroy them! Even ran them without fluid! Neutral drops, too!
TH350 earned the WEAK name, because the Corvettes were eating them up (1977-switched to 350 from 400). Back in the 70's, we were still tranny dropping from neutral at 4,000 RPMs! (We did not have fancy hi-rpm torque convertors back then. The Vega was the hot torque convertor, cause of smaller 10" size, only)
All Corvettes/Camaros/Firebirds/Big Cars had TH400s up til then.
They went to 350 trannys because of fuel economy (less weight) and horsepower to the rear. The 350 tranny ate up less horsepower to the rear axle.
Switching to powerglides?
NO
Only drag racers did, for the simple reason more power to the rear wheels. Less gears to turn.
Yes, people today know how to beef up the 700R4s & 200c's. They like 200Cs for the reason you said, it is a slip fit in, instead of the 350 & you get better fuel economy, to boot.
Did you know that GM made the transmissions for ALL tanks in World War II? Allison.
Now you know why TH400 is so strong and desired over any tranny today.
Literally built like a tank.
My tranny in my 1974 Corvette is 135,000 miles old, almost 30 years old and I can still get a chirp in 2nd gear from it! Never rebuilt. Came from factory with a shift kit in it, no matter what engine option.
During 70's engine output also took a nose dive, so less (350) demanding trannys were put in cars, too.

200c trannies(i'm positive on this) came in early LG4 powered G-bodies(monte carlo, grand prix, ect) an i have never heard of 200c trannies in thirdgen cars. i thought the only automatic in thirdgen cars was the 700r4. i could be wrong though, someone else verify this.

Oh, well, yeah, today the TH400 is bulletproof. I'm talking about when those guys first came out! Altho did the 400 come out indestructible it's first time?
SuperZ, the 3rd gen's had 200C's. The only year for a 200C backing a V8 f-body was in 1982. The 2.8 V6 had the 200C for another year (1983), and by 1984, all f-bodies came with the 700r4.

Hi Tom,
Until they came out with the TH400 (1965 for the First SS396), the auto trannys were weak.
Reverse after Low
Twin Pitch Automatics
Dynaflow
All unique to the individual GM car lines. Except for the Powerglide.
Ford trannys were junk.
Studebaker used someone elses
Chrysler was "ify"
By early 60's they were making BIG POWER. 400+ cubic inches & 400HP was getting common.
!
We had a 1963 Grand Prix with one of the "almost Super Duty 421".
My Dad and Cousin used to drag race his Sisters 1965 GTO on the back roads of Long Island.
Tranny's couldn't a handle it and the sticks were the big power maker.
Shifting a 4 Speed, power shifting & barking tires in each gear you can was all part of the Americn Dream
, back then. I know I did my share in the early 70's in my 1966 Corvette
. Yes, I had a Corvette as my high school car. Never raced anyone. I already had the prize! Always worked.
I was into speed, top speed (1st ticket I got was racing the PA State Police, HS Graduation night. I did beat them
!), on long windy Pennsylvania back roads and shifting.
My Dad had the Automatic TH400 1974 Corvette.
I put a hole in his tranny pan once & drove with out fluid for a bit.
"Why is it smoking back there?
"
