Car makes a grinding sound when starting and is hard to start

My car wouldnt start for school this morning. It started about a month ago when i was at school and my car wouldnt start.I finally got it started and it hasnt done it since then except it makes a really bad grinding noise when it cranks up and it turns over forever before it does start. This morning it wouldnt start and it made the grinding sound really bad.I tried to crank it when i got home and it did after about 3 tries. It will start right up when it has been ran awhile and hot.Should i get a new starter and be done with it?
Thanks

Get the starter, save yourself a LOT of trouble. Do it ASAP.

If you don't do it soon you're going to start eating teeth off your flexplate.. unless you want to replace that, do it ASAP.

Be cheap & lazy.
Remove your starter. I think you have OMITTED the starter shim!
Clean ALL WIRE CONTACTS
Replace the starter in the car. Give it a try.
IF you have not lost the shim that could/should be in there, you may win & save $50 - $75.
Leaking valve cover gaskets really ruin a good starter.
