Seat belt retractor
Seat belt retractor
The retractor on my passenger belt is messed up. You have to slowly pull the lap part of the belt straight up or it binds and stops.
Anyone know how to fix/replace this? If I hit the salvage yards for a replacement, can I swap my current belt onto a new retractor, or is it a complete unit (meaning I have to find the right color in as good condition as mine).
I checked the Body/Interior board, but couldn't find anything.

My fathers 1992 Blazer does exactly what you are talking about. Under the houseing there is a spindle, on ours there is a green clip broke off, if you slide a knife under it and lift about 2-3mm (1/8 inch) it comes out okay.
Well, as far as I know you're in for a search because I think your going to have to hit the salvage yards, and find one the same color as the one you have...Hopefully someone can back me up on this....

I'm thinking that there is a small spring in the retractor assembly that broke. You can look and see or call GM and ask the parts guy if he can look up the assembly and tell you the price of the spring. No Gm dealer I know of will have it in stock. But if I'm wrong (hey it happens) he'll tell you that it isn't a spring and you'll know that I'm just guessing.
