How much power can a 60 degree v6 take before I blow up the rods or pistons or something else important?
The reason I ask is because I have my '93 Lumina and i'm toying around with the idea of finding a Turbo setup for it off an early 90's Pontiac Grand Prix.
------------------
1980 Camaro, '88 Police 350 engine, Headers, full exhaust, completely redone, my baby!
1988 Iroc-Z L98, MSD 6a, Accel coil, K+N's, Airfoil, Coolant Bypass, Flowmaster, Gears, Late model Bose, I like the 80 better

Check with gm performance parts they have some stuff for the 60 deg V6 (believe it or not) Personally I would not push more than 4 pounds boost...
I am lookng into building a big turbo 4.3 right now..so far the shops I have telked to say to expect between 400-650 depending on the boost level. I am going to put in a boost timing computer to control boost from inside.

Theres a guys here locally that runs a 3.1L with a turbo. his website is www.turboz24.com Anyway he can run upto 16 pounds boost and regularly blows 5.0's and fbody V8's away on 9 pounds. Last he tested his car (before the new .600 lift cam) he was running 14's on THREE cylinders. IF you are gonna build a lumina engine use a grand prix turbo crank (factory hardened) pre 67 chevy 350 rods (sized down) and cusomer forged pistons. That will give you a nice forged bottom end that will take the power. Even the larger journal 3.1L cranks from the firebirds will take a 350 hp load, i have NEVER heard (nor the shop here that helped me with my old project) of that crank coming apart. People say the V6 60 degree block is weak and not worth building. What you will find if you do alot of research is the 60 degree GM block is used in alot of racing applications in the migit class, kit cars use the 2.8L to 3.4L and run 250 to 300 hp out of them. Fiero racers use the block and get 270HP out of them. Theres afew sites i have found where fieros run 130hp NOS and LOW 12 second time slips. Its a block that has a carbed history and a racing history and is a DAMN strong block. ITs not an 8, that is true but class for class its in the top 5 blocks to build. Its expensive, it hard to get parts for (thats getting better) but it is a long lasting, dependable strong block. Give an email to my friend that built the Z24 his addy is on the website. He can give you alot of good advice as he did me, you will be building a machine that is closly related to his and he prolly would love to talk shop
good luck...
