New Third Gen info
New Third Gen info
I have got confirmed info from a freind at GM headquarers that the F-Body will be dying...
I don't know if anyone here has heard yet(don't know how you wouldn't) but anyway the last year of production is actually 2001, they will get no mods for 2002 and they will stop rolling out of the factories mid 2002. Me and many many other are very disapointed and emailed, called, snail mailed and I think all the gross response got a positive response cause they will only be taking a breather...which they desperately need.
They will be back on in 2004 hopefully with heavy body redesign. They will be going to a RWD modular body/frame combo from the Corvette and Caddy line. And I was kinda surprised to hear this...The Corvette will be getting off the GM line and going solo... It will still fall under GM but will be independant.
The camaro F-Body needs a new body and it needs to go back to its roots and rediscover the muscle car it used to be.

That's pretty much the skinny I had heard, often.
Haven't heard that about the Corvette, tho.
I've only heard that the Caddy will be built on the same line.
They are closing down the Canadian Factory for sure, then. Bummer.
Lots of jobs gone from that plant. They were trying to figure out a way to keep it runing & keep F Body economical car produced there.

I'm still not sure why anyone that owns an f-body already cares about this! If someone wanted to buy one then maybe they'd be worried, but why us? If anything it'll make our cars more rare.

Ok Now everyone would like to own a new f-body at some point. They are just ****ing bad *** looking. Thats why we care.
They need to return back to their roots as a mucsle car? Oh come on how is 305 hp not a muscle car. Especially turning in mid 13 sec 1/4's I dont know may muscle cars doing that from the factory back in "the day".
Look from 75 to around 90 the cars were down on power for various reasons like no compression horrible cams emissions equipment that was not the optimal way of doing things, but now the engineers are working to make more HP under the same constraints and its working.
I think it is a shame that they are killing the f-body and changing anything about it other that the cosmetics. Think about the interchangeability of parts between generations right now. If anything that proves we are still close to our roots, just maybe evolved to the ne era. Besides how many ne Chevells are rolling off the GM line now. The f-body is the only muscle car left, because the Rustang still can't compete on facotry power.

the only way i know that our cars get rarer(is that a word) is that around where i live all the thirdgens i see are all rusted out and primed to hell with dents all over em like they rolled it off a mountain, knowing that its only a matter of time before that thing is sold for scrap, sorry to say this but i dont think thirdgens like that should be allowed on the road, its makes us guys that drive the nice ones look bad. Whenever i see one of those rust buckets i just shake my head in dissapointment, stomp on the gas and leave him wishin his was as fast and good lookin as mine. Sorry but thats just my .02

I never have understood why don't the car companies take the most popular car from the 60's and 70's and make a "limited" production mirror image of it with all the modern stuff like engine and suspention... Can you imagine a 1969 camaro or a 1972 Trans am or a 1971 Mach I body sytle but in 2001 form with modern performace under a limited tag.... Man how many would order one <raises hand>

ya, but man why worry? An f-body is an f body, and will always b an f body. your honestly saying that if you couldnt find anyhing in ur year, but there was a 2003 35th aniversery adition 5.7L v8, fully loaded, 10,000 miles on it mint for the same price u were willing to pay (a tad dreaming
) u would passs it up? u must not love cars like u say....
jk man, but seriously, a camaro is a camaro, agreed we all have our favorites, but this DOES affect u in some way or another. like mentioned before, think about all the things we can grab from a 1999 camaro if we needed, the interchangability is priceless, just as the f body is. Gm better find a way to get it back, or there will be a $hitload less fun for all car enthusiests who cant make cars from scratch....
also one question... they are stoping in 2002 right? do they already have a plan for the new camaro? anyone have the concept drawling? i just dont see how anyone can dream up a "perfect" re-do of a classic muscle car in ONE YEAR! i gotta take the owner of the new car lot that is the "sister lot" to my dads used car lot and see whats goin down. the owner there loves camaros as much as we do, so maybe i can work something out with him. also its a little off topic, but anyone in or around MD that wants to travel like half way between baltimore and DC, there is going to be a camaro club show at that lot i think june (?). ill go ask, hold on ill put a new reply with the date ASAP. ill be on vacation that month tho

I agree with making a old camaro but brand new off the line that owuld be SWEEET. I personaly love the styly of the newer trans am's but the camaros are how do you put it GAY looking. Also Ford is winning becasue if you look at the prive for a 2001 GT its like 22,000 but if you want a LS1 Camaro or Trans am 30,000. yes quality is at stake but still. Back in 1979 my mom paied 8,000 dollars for a brand new Trans Am with a 403 big block.
And my Dad paid $6600 for a loaded (I know, I ordered it) 1974 Corvette. I still have the sale order form.
THE ISSUE IS SALES and how many cars are moved.
The buyer of the f-body, today is a rare breed.
These cars are so overwieght, so limited on internal configuration, it's a wasted design!
Look at the competition and it's NOT THE MUSTANG! Yet, the 'Stang sells many more.
WHY? Female buyers!
What female wants to be in a new F Body?
It's sad.
GM, from magazine article (Muscle Car Review) is said to be re-drawing/re-designing the F-Body to be a "new" 1969, as the SSR is to be a new 1950's Chevy Truck.
Honest, when I recently sat in a new 2001 Camaro, I got lost. All I saw was a windshield, no personality. Unlike my 1967, 1968, heck even my 1985 Firebird!
These new cars lack utility. Lack room. Lack versatility.
Lack sales.
I'm kinda glad to see to hear this "version" may be dead. It needs to be.
They need a better design, in every way of thinking.
A Honda Accord, 2 door, parks next to my 1967 Convertible. It's the same size. Yet, probably 25% more versatility. I use my cars for many different purposes. Like the time, I dropped the top and moved a big couch! Even my 1985 has better internal design than these new 4th gens.
