Starting issues
Starting issues
I have had my 89 V6 since brand new...in 95, I put an obnoxious stereo in it and have had start and power issues ever since. Here I go again...new battery...heavy duty and higher power alternator already checked and replaced recently. Wanted to drive it yesterday and it would not start...got any ideas? Getting frustrated..

By no start do you mean its not turning over or your battery drains? Don't get frustrated third gens have their own personality they like to give you little issues to see if you love em enough to fix em

As a rule, in this case and life in general, if you do something and things get worse, undo what you did, figure out why it was worse and start again. Otherwise you'll always be fighting what is fundamentally wrong.

Re: Starting issues
Key words in the OP are "obnoxious stereo"...
When you do any sort of stereo upgrade, you're supposed to upgrade a couple of wires as well, not just throw a new alternator and such in and call it a day. Upgrade the alternator to battery wire, the engine ground strap, and the battery to body ground. Remove the wire from the back of the alternator that runs to the junction block behind the pass side headlight and replace it with a wire running straight to the battery positive terminal. I used 8 gauge wire for all 3 wires.
Could also be that the amplifier or headunit isn't completely shutting off or is shorted and continuously draining the battery... Try removing the amp's inline fuse (between the batt and the amp) for a couple of days to find out. If there isn't an inline fuse, you NEED to add one.

Re: Starting issues
That is true when I first put an amp for 2 12's it killed my alternator for some reason in my old car. That reminds me I got to do the big 3 upgrade on my car. For some reason I'm thinking the op's remote wire may be getting power at all times leaving the amp on to drain the battery.
