Code 44 after replacing 02 sensor.

I replaced the O2 sensor yesterday in an effort to improve my gas milage. Today as I was cruising down the highway at 65 miles per hour the Service Engine Soon light came on. I checked the code when I got home. It was code 44, lean exhaust condition.
Is this related to the O2 sensor replacement? Should I have cleared the computer after replacing the sensor? Or could something else be wrong?
It is a 91 Camaro RS, stock 3.1, with 143,000 miles.

Thanks, Morty

Could the O2 wire have moved, and melted on the exhaust?

The welds on the Y-pipe were broken allowing fresh air to get stucked into the exhaust. The sensor thought the exhuast was lean because it was measuring fresh air.

Thanks for the suggestion Tom P.
