wierd question

a couple of days ago, i was drivin my 87 camaro down a rough street and i heard a really strange rattle coming from the rear end. it almost sounded like a slinky. it isnt the muffler or tailpipes rattling(i have the burns on my fingers from shaking them to prove it), and i have no idea what it could be. anybody have any idea what it could be?

What about the heat shields over the muffler & catalytic convertor? What about the rear upper shock mounts (sometimes they bust through, there's thin sheet metal up there). Have any of the springs/hardware for your drum brakes, under the drums, broken free or are loose? Is the spare tire/jack/lug wrench anchored down? Either that, or since you only heard it on a rough street, you might've been hearing just the normal Camaro rattles & bangs.

Heat sheild. Get the rear end in the air where you can see it. It is between the muffler and the gas tank. It must have been bent somehow. Just bend it out of the way and you will be good to go.
