82-84 carb version head removal tips
82-84 carb version head removal tips
It finally went. My head gasket in my 1985 S-10 Blazer. It gushed chocolate milk all over the passenger side of the engine. So, now I use the left over parts from the 1985 Firebird 2.8-3.4 swap.
I've got the 40K timing chain, want to swap cams (I can get a reground 2.8 FI cam for $25!), I'm using the 2.8 MPFI heads, after a quick rebuild.
Here's what I need tips on, please.
I have those damn A.I.R. tubes in the way, along with the smog pump stuff and that inefficent carb.
Who can offer some tips for this mission?
Getting another short/long block doesn't count
Thanks!

Get a 3.4. Someone around here says that they pull like a freight train.
Sorry to hear you have the 2.8 carb. Those things are slugs. My 2.8TBI in my 87 Blazer with my 4 speed would honestly (I believe) smoke my Firebird. Sad but true. It was a bad lil mammajamma until it furked on me.

How I would LOVE to get a hold of a good tranny and 3.4 block,
I'd pull the whole thing out. My tranny is bad, but, it moves it.
I'm doing a cheap quick head gasket swap.
Not touching a thing, else. May not even do the cam.
The Blazer block has 211,500 miles on it.
I can use the truck for moving stuff shortly, so, that's why the quick (cheaper fix than renting a truck, too!) fix, unlike the Firebird, which was a fix for the long run. I'm fortunate to have all these left over parts to use. What ever parts I use, will stay for the long run (the MPFI heads).
Really wish the factory gave these Blazers the MPFI system, so I wouldn't have to jump thru hoops to add fuel injection to the Blazer.
These carbs are ok, but, nothing shines like the F-Body MPFI system.
Back to the question, who has done a head gasket swap on the 82-84 carb F-Bodies, looking for tips.
Thanks all!
