200 horsepower?

what will i have to do to get 200 hp out of my 84 v6. I already have flowmaster exaust and a k&n filter. i dont want to add nitrous because its hard on the engine, and i would like to leave the engine MOSTLY stock. Money isnt that big of an issue. i just want more power without getting a bigger engine or a newer car.thanks for the help.

Call around to local machine shops and speed shops. Tell them you are looking into getting your Cylinder heads ported and a 3 angle valve job. Probably pay 300ish for a real good job could be more.

I believe Edlebrock makes a 4bbl carb for carbed 2.8s. I would do this, or convert to MPFI.

Easy. Find out what CamaroVroom has done to his car, which makes a 2.8 w/exhaust and CAI into 190 hp. Then, do something or other that's worth 10HP. Maybe a slightly more radical Cam?

I'd say nitrous if you want a cheap way to make 200hp.

Chevyguy,
You'll need more than those tips. You gotta get stickers, lots and lots of stickers. That's what all the ricers do that enable them to keep up with Z28's and Corvettes, when all they have are a CAI and exhaust. It's gotta be the stickers.....

When I took the Hypertech sticker off my hatch last fall, I felt it immediately. I mean, I must have lost a good 30 HP!!!! I made it all back though when I put on a set of Fiero headers, and a catback....

To help with the actual question though, if you really want 200hp, you will be forced to open the engine up. You need a cam, RR's, etc. if you ever plan on seeing 200 solid HP.

Nah bub, it's not the stickers. I believe he's makin fun of CamaroVroom, the guy who thinks that an exhaust and ignition gave him 50hp.

Aw c'mon guys, it wouldn't be the Notorious V6 board if we had no flames. I mean, in the time I've been here, first it was Monkie, then Kyle for some time, then some other idiot, and now we have CamaroVroom. If we didn't have someone to make fun of for idiotic claims, what fun would there be??

I'm gonna outside now and take my airbox top off, and drill some holes in my muffler....should be good for at least 60hp.

You think thats good I had my Civic boasting 1/4mile times of 10's after just installing HKS and Powered by Honda stickers. Though I have to say the biggest improvement came from the V-tec sticker, its amazing how that changes the whole attitude of the motor above 5500rpms. Though I have not put my exhaust tip on yet, I am wating for my mom to finish the can of Folgers. I mean Why pay $4 when I can get it for free right.

Hey Kyle,

Sorry man, didn't mean to say you made unsubstantiated claims. It wasn't until after I wrote that that I realized that's how I came off. And by that point, I was too tired to fix it

All I was trying to say is that without someone to yell at on this board, it would never be the same.

As for CamaroVroom, I smoked his *** last night. I put his headers on my Trek 8000 mountain bike and my *** was gone

Ummm....if you rebuild a 2.8 with some super high compression pistons, high comp rings, super port the heads, high ratio roller rockers, waaaay radical cam, and an improved intake, electric water pump, you may have a chance for something like 185-ish, I suppose. But nothing short of nitrous or a blower will bump you into the 225 hp mark.

I've seen him in the General Tech area asking about engine swaps and buying a new car, so I guess that 190HP monster isn't good enough for him.

geez...thats funny. If u look at all his posts, they all change and the lie becomes bigger. He has a engineering degree and works for boeing etc, he owns 20 different cars, he owns 2 cars themselves worth 50k, he has 4 new cars, he made a carbon fiber body with all this "custom" stuff on it.

Hey Graemes, if you look at some other ones, he asks about swapping his monster 2.8 out for a 305 and says he can't afford a wiring harness for a new engine.

Its cool Jason, no problem.

225HP can be had out of a 2.8, I have seen a lot of Fieros with that, but they have been bored, ported and camed pretty good, and some require race gas because of such a high compression.

A 4 bbl carb will do for a V6 the same it will for a V8...by allowing more fuel into the motor, you'll get more power out. I would assume because it is made for a 2.8, there should be no problems giving the motor too much gas...its a 450 CFM if I remember correctly.

Go to Edlebrock's website and have a look. I KNOW they make them and the matching manifold, but as I own MPFI, I know nothing about them. Good luck!!

You will need more airflow to use that 4bbl. Remember that it will now be a wet intake manifold meaning that the velocity of the air entering the carb will dictate you ability to mix the fuel with the air. You will definatly want a GOOD cold air package for it, not an open element set up.
I would imagine to this will mean that you engine will need to pull more air than a stock one. So head work will be need.

Just my $.02

I searched the archives & found the message, for the rest of you curious people (like me) - it's at: https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/000453.html That was funny as hell...

On a tech note, has ANYONE put the 4bbl carb on a 2.8? I always hear about it, but haven't seen anyone with it. Ohh... wait.... there was a guy, "back in the day" at http://www.v6fbody.com ... Ken something? He did the 2.8 -> 3.4 AND mpfi -> carb conversion to his 3rd gen... I think he sold the car tho, and I have no idea what the webpage (with pictures) is/was. He had a nice page, too... step-by-step pictures of it all.
