Universal Turbo kit
I saw this kit on ebay today and was thinking that this is too cheep to be a good turbo kit but I wanted to put this post on here and get some feedback. The site it http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/UNIVE...item2a0fe697dd
I have thought about putting a turbo on my car for so long but 1000$ for the stuff turned me away.. now that I see this and for only $400 plus tax and shipping only comes to about $500 and some good ole fashon fabricating... What does everyone think of this kit??? Thanks!!

pretty much the same kit we used on pilsburys car,his came with a bigger intercooler and some other stuff
be aaware though and i have no idea why they do it, but the intercooler inlet and outlets is smaller then the tubing they give u ,so u will need adapter couplers
on pilsburys it was oposite they sent him a 3 inch intercooler but only 2.5 inch tubing

Re: Universal Turbo kit
I would strongly suggest having any boosted engine tuned. You could easily risk detonation with the wrong fuel/air ratio's. Detonation under boost = motor go boom!

Re: Universal Turbo kit
So could someone that is knowledgeable on this subject make some notes/comments on those turbo kits? PM is fine, if you would rather. I too am curious about these kits, but I don't know very much about turbochargers. I see that there would be a need for couplers, and it looks like I would have to custom fab the manifolds.. Any help appreciated.

Re: Universal Turbo kit
If you look at the (how to install a trubo) on the sticky threads of the V6 page, it'll tell you alot..Ive been reading it quite a bit and the details are great for someone like me who has never instaled a turbo before...I think Project89 Made the thread if I remember right and he did a great job...just check it out and see whats there.

Re: Universal Turbo kit
Well my car has 104k on it and ive put 70k of them on it... as long as your car has a solid tune up and is working good I think that our motors will be fine running low amounts of turbo without hurting them at all.. Im looking to run 6-8Psi on a daily basis but might turn it up for the drag strip.Im a beginner at this turbo stuff to but I think that as long as the motor is solid, it'll be fine with a turbo setup.Pm me if ya wana chat about this stuff... since were both going to put one in our cars it'll help to have insite for eachother as the builds begin.

(don't over think it, just do it.) Sounds like a plan to me....from a V6 draging *** to a V6 Hauling ***...Thats what I'm aiming for!

Re: Universal Turbo kit
Point being?.. Our cars haven't been made for a while either, and it seems that we can still find them pretty easy. I really want to put a turbo on it, but I have to figure out how that will work with the carb. setup. I'm pretty new at these go-fast goodies.

Re: Universal Turbo kit
what he said
there is one pother option to keep the carb and its more expsensive then swaping to fuel injection
edelbrock lower manifold , with the 4 barel carb top and a holley 390 cfm carb.
u would have to do some mods to the carb to get it to work in a boosted application mods are fairly siple and need to be done on any turbocharged car with a carb in a blow threw carb configuration

Re: Universal Turbo kit
I understand that the easiest way would be to swap to EFI, but I am trying to make a v6 fast, so obviously I am not after the easy route. I would prefer to keep it carbureted. Looks like I have a lot of homework to do.

Re: Universal Turbo kit
EFI has better street manners, especially when coupled with a power adder, so why not make it easier on your self to get it running well?

Re: Universal Turbo kit
Simply because I don't want to swap to EFI. Parts are not locally available for me to do that, and I like the fact that this engine is carbureted. I am going to do a lot of research on the subject, and if I think it is too much for me then I won't do it.

Re: Universal Turbo kit
honestly...and what six is trying to tell you politely, is your setting yourself up for failure by trying to use the carb setup. theres a reason you dont see any and no one on the board is bragging about their sweet v6 carb turbo setup.
you CANT cut corners with this kind of project do it right the first time or youll end up selling your car for parts.

Re: Universal Turbo kit
Yeah I have done some research and realize that it is really a PITA to turbo a carb setup. I am just going to drop the idea and drive it as it is for a while. When this motor blows, I have another 2.8l carb laying around, but I might just go to an 8 cyl. I have a 350 in a chevelle that I want to pull out anyways and drop a BB in the chevelle.
