Help on idle problem while driveing?

This isn't for my car but my cousins 92 3.1L RS. When he's parked sometimes it'll idle fine and when it doesn't it rev's in 200rpm increments. For example from 1000 to 1200, and sometimes when he lets off the gas and hits the brake, it start idleing radical...
What would cause this and how do i fix it? If its the IAC or TPS whats the specifications on the settings for it? I've never owned nor worked on a v6 so i don't really know much about the settings....

Well, the TPS/IAC adjustment is the same for the v8 cars. Tom K's car is featured in this month's Hot Rod Magazine, giving the adjustment procedure. I'm not sure if the mag has hit the newstands yet, but in the upper right corner, the cover says "Free TPI Fix", and shows two Camaros on the front.

I believe the car is supposed to idle at 600-800 RPM's, and the TPS should be at 0.45 volts with +/- 0.05 tolerance. (0.40 to 0.50 volts) You might also want to check the TPS voltage at WOT... the books say it should be at 4.5, but my car only goes up to 4.28. I'm not sure if that's standard or not.

You could also try cleaning out his throttle body, and the IAC passageways. Remember when you remove the IAC from the TB to have the IAC unplugged & car off! Don't turn the car on until the IAC's back in and plugged in. Otherwise you'll have to play with the IAC motor- it's a hassle that's easily avoided.

If you have problems finding the article on cleaning out the IAC passageways (as I did) I found them here:

I'm going to try this myself as soon as it STOPS RAINING!

IT"S YOUR IAC, I had the same problem, just replace your IAC and if you have to, your ECM because when my IAC died it poped that part of the ECM, works fine now.
