Car won't start, distributor plug wire BS, need assistance....


Guys, I really need an answer to this. My 89 2.8 RS needed a new ignition module because it had no spark, I did that and now theres spark, but while the car wasn't running I changed the distributor cap and rotor, but I'm not sure if I put all the wires in the right place.

So I changed the distributor cap and rotor, put the new ignition module in and it started, it idled rough and when I put it into reverse and pushed the peddle it got more rough and sounded like it was going to stall, so I shut it off and figured I put the wires on incorrectly from this reaction, so I moved some around to where I thought I might have made a mistake and then it wouldn't start. I didn't know where the wires should have went since I rearanged them some, so I did a search on the V6 board telling u where the wires should go and something about the rotor having to line up and harmonic balancer BS. I put them where they said to and it still won't start. Some1 has to know, I need this car to start, thanks guys!!

Well, here's what ya did.
You had it correct.
You had a vacuum hose leak (probably the one by the distributor base came loose, you "cracked it").
Try to figure out where you started and go forward again.
CHECK ALL VACUUM HOSES!
These cars will NOT start, at all, if the distributor spark plug wiring is incorrect.

I have them correct now, it still won't start, I am sure the hoses are OK, its when I went changing them around that it decided not to start, any1 have a diagram of how it should be, and whats with this rotor and balancer having to line up to start??

Also, when I crank it there is a sound and a line comes off of the plenum.

GOOD FOR YOU!!
Double check your hoses & plastic lines, now.
I was pretty sure it was that complicated but simple.
These V-6 cars do not like any plug wires outta place, unlike a Chevy V-8. Those things can run (hardly, tho) when something is goofed up!
