96 grand am

hey, what v6 came in a 96 grand am? a friend of mines sister just got one, and she keeps saying that her six could take my six. I rode in my friends 96 once, and his didn't seem faster than my bird, so i'm curious. This girl does come from a muscle car family too, her dad just bought a 63 impala, her brother drives a 68 charger, and is getting a 71 challenger, and his first car a 90 T/A with a TPI 305. not to mention all the other cars they've had, vettes, GTo's etc,... anywhoot. thanx. oh, his my kill list, do you think a 96 grand am could be added?

(might not have been running well, but i'll count it anyway.), mid 90's Ford Mustang GT 4.6L tags. (beat him in a turning contest), 3rd gen RS camaro( beat him by more than 2 cars), Celica GT (this guy was a crazy racer)
---came close----

I wouldnt doubt her. My friend had thought of taking the induction and fuel and everything off one since it was far superior to ours.

A 96 Grand Am with a 6 would have something between a 3.2 and 3.4 I think. My friend's bro has a 92 or 93, and I think his is a 3.2 while I have a 3.4 in my 2000. Dont know what year they changed it. As for beating it, doubt it. My 2000 is rated at 170 hp. With a bigger engine, aluminum heads, better fuel introduction and lighter body those cars are fast. In fact, a 2000 GA I heard will beat a 2000 v6 f-body.

My mom used to have a 94 4-cyl Grand Am with an auto, and it would eat my 89 up.

Vman

Oh yeah, I went 4th gen too! But I miss 3rd gens!

the 94 4-cyl. would be a quad-4
the 96 v6, likely would still be a 3.1 but they did have some odd motors in them @ times.

well they would be a 3.1 or a 3.8. But more than likely a 3.1. They can take ours if we have an auto...I have a manual and have taken a few out that have the 3.1 personally. They do have the trac advantage because there weight is on the wheels so they can get the line but after that I rev and blow past them.

Man, all these friggen GM fans and not ONE of you knows for sure what the friggen motor in a '96 GA is?? Shame, shame...

Four banger = 2.4 DOHC "Quad 4" (called the twin cam by '96), 150hp, 0-60 in 8.4 with auto, 7.9 with stick

V6 = 3100 SFI V6, 155hp, 0-60 in 8.0 with auto only

Yes, she will eat you once, come back and smoke them for you just to show off. Do not attempt to race her unless you really wanna lose

I had a '95 GA with the same motor for a month...it was WAY faster than the RS. I wish in a way I had kept the GA and sold the RS!! Can't beat 27 MPG and 8 sec flat 0-60!!!

I've beaten a 97 Grand Am with the V6 in it...so i'm pretty sure if you have some slight mods to yours that you could take out the V6. Hey if you lose just think of it this way....At least you lost to another GM....jk
