not an OIL leak!!

sorry i haven't kept you guys updated on the swap,,,but this motor is AWESOME! anyways i think my distributor cam is leakin....but i'm not really sure, i htink this b/c i didn't rebuild it, so it could be my o-ring....but i'm not really sure, or it could be b/c of the fact that i can't really tighten down my distributor very good b/c i can't find a distributor wrench to fix on in....ALSO my friend and i were dumb a$$es and sheared off my tranny shifter cable bolt, so now i have to lay on the ground to shift my car in to gear....but i don't think you guys can help me on that one,,,unless someone knows a homemade remedy w/ out me taking it to a tranny shop. but the oil leak in my main concern,,,,i just don't wnat it to be a leaky intake manifold gasket...thanks for everyones help during this swap w/ out some of these posting,,,i wouldn't have gotten through this...so thanks a lot!

My distr leaked also after my swap....KED put a gasket from a chevy long block I believe...all I did was use some slicone RTV and it worked like a charm...just remove the Distr and put the RTV on it...and then tighten it down.

Which bolt is sheared off? The one on the shift lever on the trans, or the one on the cable?

If "A", get a shift lever from a junkyard.

If "B", what about a nut & bolt combo, drilling out the old? Or, buy a new shift cable from GM. (I think getting one out of a junkyard might be too much of a hassle, unless the new GM one is $150..)

A $0.99 "1 inch inside diameter" o-ring's all you need. I found a pack of 5 at Pep Boys (in their metal pull-out drawers, near the wheel studs & hardware section) for $1.59. For my distributor, I use a 15mm bolt, a universal (swivel), a 9" extension, and a ratchet.

Glad to hear the motor's running well!

Here's how.
It's very close quarters back there (like an ARMY Barracks!)
But...
You remove dist.
Clean the area real well.
Install a home made distributor hold down set up FIRST!
Here's how.
Take the bolt (you have a 15mm head on it)
Go to the hardware store and go get a LONGER BOLT and matching nut.
Cut off head of the NEW BOLT, file to make threads ok and then inset this into the block.
Get a Chevy Small Block Distributor gasket (Fel Pro makes them). They are $1.00 and VERY THIN (that is the magic part, very thin!), NOT CORK!!!!
Use a FILM of BLACK RTV on BOTH SIDES of gasket. Insert the gasket on the shaft, slip dist. down the hole.
NOW, slip the distributor hold down plate over the headless bolt in the engine, slip nut on the shaft of the headless bolt, use a (I had to use a 17mm flex socket I got from Sears for $7.50) socket to tighten and you are home free. TO get to that area, I used extensions on the sockets. I had to buy some more, to reach it. But the FLEX HEAD SOCKET TO FIT NEW NUT IS THE KEY.
This will work.
I also did not fully tighten down the nut, as I wanted to run the car and time the car by ear.
AFTER you get the car to run smooth and ping free, then tighten down, forever!
And it's leak free!!

Sorry about the tranny part. No fixes for that.

wow thanks a lot.....on that tranny bolt...it's the one where the shifter cable connects to the side of the tranny the shift cable actually connects to a bracket and that bolt that holds the bracket on sheared (i shouldn't even have touched it, but i didnt read the manual properly)...and on that part JB weld just doesn't cut it, owell....i think i'm off to the tranny shop

Oh- you mean the stud that comes out of the transmission is snapped? IIRC, that's not a bad one to get to.
